I don't recall seeing anyone obey the 20 limit in Maybole, and I notice they now have a new one by the school which is ignored as well.
What's wrong with you? Drivers are claiming that they will be swarmed by overtaking cyclists if they drive at 20mph. Most of us are allegedly riding at significantly more than 20
Gonna need a lot more of these
Funny you should use this image. I don't get the joke however...
I'm giving a few mentions on Drivers and their Problems - some of the more outlandish "my world is collapsing" claims by drivers that get in the media.
Schrodingers's traffic regulation - simultaneously too simple and too complex for drivers to comply with.
You can put down the Committee in the Scottish parliament that looked at this a while back also.
National speed limit applies (formerly "derestricted"): a sensible and pragmatic measure applying a uniform upper speed limit everywhere.
30mph default in defined areas (e.g. "residential") which can be varied with TROs: we feel this is a sensible and pragmatic measure which doesn't hamstring local authorities (with their better knowledge of local conditions).
20mph default in defined areas (e.g. "residential") which can be varied with TROs: we feel this is an inappropriate (frankly - barmy) one-size-fits-nobody measure. A blanket arbitrary speed limit?! This will hamstring local authorities (who are best placed to set limits suitable for local conditions).
I had also posted on the Whingeing Entitled Dickhead Drivers topic as I was in Bangor at the weekend. The difference was striking, particulatly when walking and cycling.
TBH the roads in and around the city are so full of traffic, plus a sprinkling of traffic lights, ped crossings and one way streets that you really couldn't drive far at 30 mph+ during the day.
The moany comments online are all from people who aren't thinking about anyone else's safety, only their own convenience.
Some stats and infographics posted by 20's Plenty Wales on twitter, including that 298,519 households and 48% of lone parents households in Wales have no car.
In the end all it asks is for those capable of great harm to simply drive a little slower. Is that really so difficult?
Drivers, then.
It’s about personal power - it has little to do with effective transportation.
Of course. Selfish ones (I'm a driver too).
Even my 85 year old Mum moaned about how slow it felt doing 20 mph yesterday, though she did acknowledge my point that the limit existed for the safety of other people, like me for instance.
She then said that she had been to her friend's house and wouldn't have been able to drive much faster than 20 on the roads most of the way there anyway due to the speed humps, mini-roundabouts and junctions in the short journey.
It does, doesn't it? I recommend a short period of training. For a week, say, start every journey by driving at 10mph for a minute (if you can bear it / aren't murdered by others...). Then accellerate to the "minimum speed limit" of 20mph. Hey presto - twice as fast!
