Unlucky Steve
Mine didn't work out either, no real breakaway points on offer, so Turgis was a mistake, and Theuns was sprinting for Trek over Degenkolb.
Looking like a self imposed rest day so far. Brought in Kwia and Sanchez who got first and second at the intermediat sprint. So far, so good.
Best to save the transfers for the TT and mountains. I got in Degenkolb and Turgis just in case though.
Turgis looking good. Unless the pace picks up it looks like advantage sprinters. No breakaway.
Nearly went with Turgis, IN the end just swapped Bennett for Kwiatowski, so you know now who will win the sprint today.
That’s the risk. I literally flipped a coin between Jakobsen and Bennett for Kwia.
Kwia only needs to have a reasonable finish to match either of them for pts though....if they don’t actually win or come second.
Told you so!
Well....not so good today. Only Groenewegen and Trentin scoring for the day for me. Big decision to be made early about Kwia...looking like SKY are hell bent on taking advantage of the wind.
I had Groenewegen, Demare and Laporte today.
Same as you for tomorrow looking at bringing in some GC riders for non-preforming sprinters.
A longer stage tomorrow and very windy again although the wind directions might not be ideal for blowing things up again.
I can't beleive how some teams fell asleep in the last 3km today. FDJ had lots of riders there for Demare but still got caught out, AG2R too.
Is it a tail wind tomorrow?
Headwind, cross headwind.
Maybe favourable to echelons really close to the finish.
Yeah I saw that. Interesting that the general weather showed a SSW wind but the BBC graphic shows the influence of our weather turning the wind distinctly to a cross wind later on. Could be carnage again. Good luck with having the right picks.
I dropped Kittel for Trentin...
I don't think this is going to be my race.
After yesterday I broke one of my golden rules - "don't chop & change sprinters". I dropped Greipel for Ewan and in the race Greipel drops Ewan.
Kristoff nowhere to be seen again.
Looking a bit better for my purist team, Kelderman & Jungels up front.
Chaos so far. Demare, Degenkolb, Kittel, Greipel, Trentin and Groenewegen are in the front group. Jakobsen, Bennett, Ewan, Kristoff behind.
stage 2 start delayed because of wind.
Wind, wind and more wind again tomorrow. Echelons and trusting to luck the order of the day.
I had matthews in Purist as well, Colbrelli my only other sprinter. The cupboard will look bare for the first three stages.
Standard however went with 6 sprinters who all made first 8. I am happy with that.
So many good sprinter picks for this one. Reading the ticker I think I should have been going with the heavy mob.
Good chance for people to make ground on me in the Purist league.
My top pick Michael matthews crashes out on Stage1
Unlucky Minardi. I was very close to getting him. I’ve put my faith in the TT boys instead with all of Jungels, Kelderman and Izzy at the expense of the extra money for Matthews. Bullett dodged.
Ion Izagirre losing 2.50 has blown my TT heavy plans.
Given today's weather forecast I went for sprinters that I think have a better chance in crosswinds. I chose Greipel and Laporte over Ewan or Jakobsen.
BENNETT S.
DEMARE
KRISTOFF
GROENEWEGEN
GREIPEL
LAPORTE
MADOUAS
COMBAUD
Not a bad start to the stage I have Combaud in the break, hopefully he can pick up a few points.
That is the last time ever I pick Greipel.
Same here, last minute change to put in Kristoff over Ewan as thought he would do better in crosswinds, but too much of a lottery to pick who will get caught out...
I got five of the top six today to finish fifth...but i’m under no illusions that it could easily be reversed tomorrow for some of them. I’d be amazed if Kristoff finishes so lowly again....or....in fact the whole sprint thing could be relegated to a sideshow.
you smashed it Dr Winston, nice work. Turns out Kristoff had a mechanical..his shoe broke!! enough said...
Yep well done Doc. I swore I wouldn't make a change in the first three stages but I want to take Demare out and bring in Ewan. Can I resist?

Picking my team for tomorrow seems to be a case of who to leave out and not who to include. Decisions.
