Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

Drink-driver ploughs into front of betting shop after taking date's car

Rhys Haynes, 29, crashed the car into the shopfront in Cardiff

During his police interview he said he met someone on a dating app and went out for a drink with them but woke up in their house with no underpants on. Haynes said he could not remember what had happened and "panicked" before taking his date's car and attempting to drive home despite being intoxicated.

Central Peoria medical building struck by a car; no one injured

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Peoria police and fire are at the scene of an incident in Central Peoria where a car apparently struck a medical building.

The collision occurred Tuesday afternoon in the 5000 block of Glen Park Place which is a dead-end street with several medical buildings including an OSF PromptCare. The building that was struck housed a rehabilitation practice.

Semone Roth of the Peoria Police Department said an older woman stepped on the gas pedal instead of her car’s brake pedal, sending the vehicle into the building. She was not injured, Roth said.

The building, Roth said, suffered minor damage. No one was injured.

-----------

Approximate location. Not sure what business it was, but it's mostly parking lots in this utterly car-dependent cul-de-sac of mostly medical facilities. I've probably been on this road three times in 25 years.

It's about 1.3 miles from my house, but the shortest possible bike ride, drive, or even walk is 2.7 miles.

You may remember some months back a motorist buried their vehicle in a block of flats in Paisley. Not to be outdone the local bus company has now buried one of their vehicles in the exact same block.

Three single-vehicle incidents in Shropshire keeping the emergency services busy:

  • Two fire crews were called out after a car crashed into a gas main in Dawley, Telford on Sunday evening.
  • Police had to close the A529 north of Market Drayton to recover a tractor trailer that had tipped off the road at around 2pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Got mixed up with the brake and accelerator...whilst driving a school bus

//www.gazette-news.co.uk/resources/images/16909204.jpg?type=mds-article-620)

https://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/24185244.witham-driver-banned-roads-...

“The defendant came around a blind left hand bend and into stationary traffic – he accelerated and kept his foot on the accelerator.

This caused a collision with a Land Rover and that caused a pile-on – the Land Rover then crashed into a Volvo, and so on.

The coach travelled off the carriageway and caught the sides of two further vehicles.

The court heard how Hills, who had one previous driving conviction in 1970, had meant to press the break (sic) pedal, but his foot slipped and he put his foot on the accelerator pedal instead.

Ms Kuther added the garden wall which Hills crashed the bus into was completely destroyed, and that the driver of the Land Rover was taken to hospital for a cut to his head.

Major A17 bridge to close for emergency repairs after driver crashes into traffic barrier

Motorists have been warned of delays while the work takes place

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "The traffic barrier on the bridge’s westbound carriageway was destroyed on Wednesday evening when a vehicle collided with it. Luckily, no one was seriously injured in the collision and the ship passing through wasn’t delayed – thanks to quick reactions from the bridge operators."

Ferrari crashes into bike racks in Norwich city centre

This is the problem with those lycra clad lobbyists; they demand cycling infrastructure and then don't use it. It then just gets in the way of tax paying and law abiding* cars.

*How are the police not taking any action?!

Uninsured driver crashes into tree on Cambridgeshire road

The passenger was injured and taken to hospital

But did the tree have insurance? Did it pay road tax? Did it have a licence? No, therefore it wouldn't have been there. Then the car wouldn't have hit it

Was it wearing hi-viz? Did it have a helmet? Really the tree only has itself to blame. We should stop trees getting in the way of hard-working, law-abiding* cars

This now has it's own story, but comments seem to be closed there (not clear why - I know comments are closed while legal proceedings are pending, but in this case the police aren't taking any further action).

I can understand it might be tricky to prove e.g. exceeding the speed limit, but surely it's clear beyond reasonable doubt that the manner of driving fell below (if not far below) the standard of a careful and competent driver? I know a careless driving conviction is not likely to achieve much, but it would at least show some willingness for the police to take action.

You don't get it, do you? When I call you "anti-car" (or in this case "anti-coach"), this is the killer argument - the discussion is over, at least for you.

You'll have to wait for it to come to court.  I expect his lawyer will ask him to describe all how he woke up, where and at what stage did he notice they were missing.  Perhaps a burglar took them?

EDIT:  I thank you, I thank you and I thank you.

The lack of action is appalling.  What kind of message does that send?

Perhaps a complaint to the PCC is in order.
