Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

BMW driver pays for repairs after damaging Westquay parking barrier

follow-up story here to the incident in May.

"A moment of madness", says the police spokesman - I had been wondering whether it would be that, or perhaps a medical episode or whether the driver had trouble at home or work.  I'm sure everything's fine now.

Tom Jones was playing the Salisbury Guildhall at the time. No buildings harmed, but a worthy addition to the list of reasons why a driver couldn't possibly have avoided a hazard.

Building involved in an RTA with a car and a bus. Main story is about the mum of the children hurt on the bus that automatically went into the building but the statement from the police at the end.

Quote:

On the night itself, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 18:40 today (10 June), firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a bus, a car and a building.

Another self-driving (allegedly) car:

Multiple people injured after New York City cab jumps curb and plows over pedestrians

https://metro.co.uk/2022/06/20/new-york-city-cab-jumps-curb-and-plows-ov...

Quote:

At least five people were injured when a New York City taxi cab jumped a curb and ran over a group of pedestrians walking through Midtown Manhattan on Monday afternoon.

The yellow taxi reportedly collided with an SUV while traveling southbound on Broadway when it drove over the curb. The car plowed over at least five people before it hit the side of a building, according to ABC7.

(four paragraphs later, the first mention of)

The cab driver, who stayed at the scene as authorities arrived, also had non life-threatening injuries from the collision.

This one is a video !

Earlier this year a 26 tonne HGV struck the underpass and the driver failed to stop.

Clearly this should be in a separate topic instead of hijacking the already overloaded 'vehicle collides with building' but I challenge others in Bad Cops areas to beat this, and begin that new topic The Evaders! 2 years 4 months No MOT, and 2 years 5 months No VED for this Audi A4 PJ07 NFP on the Mean Streets of lawless downtown Garstang. This is what happens to areas with shameless joke police- I can guarantee there will be no response from them.

Shocking moment Ferrari SF90 hypercar worth £500,000 smashes into three parked cars

https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/18727170/moment-ferrari-hypercar-smashes...

Quote:

The ... clip shows the supercar suddenly appear before propelling directly into a white vehicle parked up on the street.

And it showed no sign of slowing down after the initial impact, but instead created a domino effect of destruction.

The car, worth half a million pounds, then careered into two other vehicles - causing quite a costly amount of damage.

The dazed driver can be seen crawling out of the shiny red hypercar after the high speed smash, before cops and fire crews rushed to the scene at 7.40pm.

Final passing mention of a driver getting out.  All agency appears to be ascribed to the car itself...

Clearly it wasn't the drivers fault.. The Sun was in his eyes 1

Full story here.

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/woman-drove-into-petrol-st...

Quote:

Chris Evans, mitigating, said Lee was a relatively new driver who had got her full licence just three months before the incident. He added that her friend's car was an automatic, which she had not driven before and was not experienced with.

"It's shocking footage when you view it not least to Ms Lee herself. It's fortunate that the injuries were not more serious," he said. "Clearly not being used to driving this vehicle had an impact in what can be described as a gross misjudgement in driving."

I'm pretty sure the only difference between an automatic and a manual is gears, they both still have an accelerator and a brake.

Quote:

However the judge said Lee had been visibly "devastated" when she realised Mr Borek had been injured and said he was minded to take account of her personal circumstances, which included caring for her elderly parents and her own ongoing health issues.

Ms Lee was given an eight-month jail sentence suspended for 18 months and 120 hours of unpaid work. She was also disqualified from driving for two and a half years from the date of her interim disqualification on April 22 this year. She must also pay a £420 in prosecution costs and a £156 surcharge.

So not much then.

I just saw that one.  Amazing that there was an entire article with quite literally no mention of a driver...

Again, the "size" factor is less important for me, but...

4 years.

Automatically down to a never-awarded maximum of 9 1/3 because guilty plea before the off of course.  Sounds like this occured during some other badness, doing 80 in built-up zones, through red lights, hit not just one but two, drove off with someone attached to car, tried to shake her off.  Going on the lam after that would seem sensible rather than an additional offense.

What does it take, being in an illegally souped-up Russian armoured vehicle, running over pregnant deputy-inspectors and corgis at a jubilee parade?  It does seem that the much vaunted whataboutery of "if I broke any law in a motor vehicle I'd have the book thrown at me, unlike cyclists" is only true if the book is a copy of the Beano.
