Bedtime and a "just so" story? BicycleDutch updated his "How the Dutch got their cycle paths" a couple of days back. A more nuanced version than he published a decade ago. Maybe with a better understanding of the process those of us in other countries can make this more effective in our own?

If you're into "how did we get here" the closest UK equivalents are probably found in the work of Carlton Reid e.g. "Roads were not made for cars" and his (literal) digging into the UK's lost cycleways. He also pops up in an interesting video looking at the evolution of transport in Coventry - "cradle" of the modern bicycle:
