Video: Boris Johnson blocked by unhappy cyclists after successful Leave campaign

Were any of them on Boris bikes?

Boris Johnson was booed by an angry crowd as he left his home this morning and a short while later found his car being blocked by around 40 cyclists.

The Mirror reports that a bagpipe player serenaded Johnson’s north London townhouse with Scotland the Brave shortly after 6.30am and when the former Mayor of London later emerged, he was unable to speak to reporters about the referendum result due to crowds shouting “scum” and “traitor” at him (among other things).

Johnson may be closely associated with London’s cycle superhighways and the shared public cycles which many still refer to as ‘Boris Bikes’ but he subsequently found his car left immobile when a group of irate cyclists congregated around him and refused to let him move.

Warning: Some of them used strong language.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Boris was London mayor for 8 years. London overwhelmingly voted to remain (including his business leader friends) and then he campaigned for this...which will majorly screw over London.

Thats why he's a traitor. Simples

So he's a traitor to London, not the rest of the country where all the immigrants were dumped.

London has more immigrants than anywhere else.

It does look as if the urban areas - where immigrants can be found- tended to vote 'remain, whereas the more rural areas - where you generally don't- tended to vote 'leave'. So it does unfortunately look as if "fear of immigrants " won over "actually knowing an immigrant "...

Yes, and the voting demographics across the country suggest that there was a fairly strong anti-correlation between percentages of non-British-born residents and voting to exit - the more immigrants, the more likely to vote to remain.

He's a toff, who naturally always has furthered the interests of other toffs. Doesn't bother me in the slightest because he is who he is. He has also however done more for cycling than any other leader in any area that I'm aware of. Kudos for that.

He's soft and approachable, so people think they can abuse him in the street. But how many of that rather middle class crowd would do the same to a working class, disgruntled low pay worker in a deprived area who voted Brexit? None. They'd be too scared to confront them. Clueless about the issues those Brexiters face because they live in a bubble away from those deprived areas. Me too, but I have the self-awareness to realise it.

The country has issues, millions of people are not being heard, but silly, supposedly left-wing types, are wasting their time blocking Boris' car. As if that means anything. It's entertainment to them. They wouldn't even piss on a impoverished Brit with an accent if they were on fire.

Fake lefties. Ugly as. As least toffs know who they are and what they want and get on with it. Left are too busy being wanky. And look how the Blairites will get the knives out for Corbyn now. An actual real lefty. Someone who could actually restore balance. Oh he wasn't loud enough on Remaining. Yes, because he's intellectually f**king honest. He's not the shill Blair or Dave is who'll wholeheartedly stand by anything and pretend there aren't problems.

Mini-rant over. Trying to avoid politics for a while now, but occassionally the mask slips..

Voted to remain in the EU, but understand the issues people are having. Not right to demonise them. People need to be heard and not mocked or abused.

Ironically Labour want to dispense of Corbyn for a remainer.  Have they not noticed their electoral base voted leave?  Labour are a failed party that has tried to stay alive by switching sides.  Now they have betrayed themselves and have nothing.

Yes agree, it's bizarre. Blairites are clueless.  Expect nothing rational from the scheming rats. They have two aims. Winning and control at any cost.

The way it is, Corbyn has the best position to take the brexit voters and deal with their issues. He didn't come out full gas and demonise them during the campaign. And he didn't talk reams of balls about how the country will spontaneously combust if we left, so credibility is there.

I read that 70% of Labour voters voted remain. That's a national average. Perhaps you are focusing only on the result in specific localities?

Didn't Ken Livingstone start the whole "Socialist Bicycles As What No-one Actually Owns" thing?  Maybe neither of them, like all politicians, really actually started anything.

I give him kudos for continuing to ride in a normal, low-key way instead of making a big deal about it.  If the people protesting want politicians and other high-profile figures to use bicycles then maybe they could think about the impact of shouting at them when they're out and about.

On the other hand he was in a car when he was blocked by the people in this video.   It's a bit easier to ignore the humanity of someone else when they're in a lump of metal which can kill you.   Would be nice if he had the balls to keep moving about on a bicycle instead of hiding away.

Boris has "humanity"? Are you sure?

They should be mocked for doing something that is going to hurt them more than anyone else.

Don't be silly. It was Ken livingstone that started the bike scheme - Boris just took the credit, true to his scheming style.

No comment on this story, I just think that this image deserves recognition, like the Mona Lisa, it can be viewed again and again without ever tiring of its magnificence.

The best part about this picture is the lady cyclist, wearing a skirt, giving it beans in the drops.

Even after the result traitors are still calling the exit crowd traitors.  They must be externalising their fear now that they have outed themselves for nothing.
