The subtle aesthetic of the ÆRA wheels is complementary to any bike, making them a great upgrade option for any road, gravel or cyclocross bike.

ÆRA is a low volume wheel brand concentrating on craftsmanship with a focus on performance and durability in UK conditions. That means hubs that will last in our rather rainy climate and wide rims for smooth rolling on broken B roads.

All ÆRA's wheels are hand-built in the UK by a Master Wheel Builder who takes great care to achieve great precision and super-tight tolerances.

Co-founder of J.Laverack Bikes, Oliver Laverack, gave us the low-down on these wheels. He says "our super versatile and capable All Road 30 disc alloy wheelset has been designed to tackle everything from fast-paced road rides on ribbon smooth asphalt to adventures on cobbled pavé, forest fire trails and gritty gravel tracks."

The rims are laced to ÆRA AR 28 hole hubs with center-lock disc fittings. They come set up 100x12mm front and 142x12mm, but you can also use quick-release skewers with the supplied end caps.

Wheelset spec:
Rim Depth: 30mm
Internal Width: 20mm
External Width: 24.1mm
Spoke Holes: 28
Nipples: Sapim Black Brass
Spokes: Sapim D-Light
Tyre Width: 23-44mm
Tyre Type: Clincher or Tubeless

What you use your new wheels for largely depends on the tyres that you put on them. Some Continental GP5000 Tubeless tyres would be perfect for fast road rides, while a Schwalbe G One would allow you to hold good road speed while mixing in some off-road sections.

The internal 20mm rim width will provide great support to wider tyres, allowing you to run lower pressures for more comfort at the same rolling resistance levels.

The wheels will come supplied with tubeless tape and valves and if you'd like to add some tyres and disc rotors to your new hoops, just ask J.Laverack. You'll need to pay for the tyres and rotors, but having someone else deal with the tubeless setup is really worth it!

OK hand the wheels over !
The OEM Maddux rd 3.0s on my bike are shocking, rear no longer has any original spokes on the drive side or 2-3 left on the other, the ropey machine build with very very inconsistent tension so a decent after market replacement from a skilled craftsmen would be job done!

Oh yes! Shiney new bike bits without my wife glaring at me and asking “how much???”. Count me in! (Could I also have a signed affidavit that they are in fact a prize and have cost nothing?)

I ride 30,000 miles a year and I will put these wheels through the ultimate test. Let me ride them and you’ll know just how good they really are.
