Video: The best do-it-all Tour de France race bikes - Specialized, Canyon, Pinarello, Trek, Wilier, Colnago & Bianchi

With all things equal which are the six of the best do-it-all race bikes currently being ridden at the Tour de France?

For the past few years, we’ve seen an increase in the number of teams that are offering just one bike to their riders for the majority of race days. The do-it-all race bike is back and we’d bet the mechanics of the Tour de France are rather happy about that. Here are some of the fastest in this year’s race.

We should point out right at the start that not all of our picks are the team’s only race bike option. Trek, for example, still offers its riders the Madone, but they’ve given the Emonda aero touches that make it suitable for the majority of stages. You’ll only see the faster riders on the Trek-Segafredo team opting for the more aero Madone.

The reason that the mechanics are going to be a bit happier with just one bike on offer comes down to simplicity. Just one type of road bike makes preparing for a race that bit easier. You only need spares of one frame model and that applies to all of the frame-specific parts like special seat posts and, increasingly these days, integrated handlebars.
