Not sure how long it would last in a typical British winter downpour though, arriving at your destination with a soggy mush of papier-mache on your head doesn't appeal much to me.

Good point, hadn't considered this (hopefully the designer has though)

Excellent idea, I have long wondered why no-one has invented a cheap diaposable helmet for cycle share schemes. I did think that the solution would just be a polystyrene thing but this design makes more sense as it is foldable when not in use and more environmentaly friendly. I hope that the safety standards are good enough, the line "The UK's Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said it was unable to comment on any products that had not met its safety standards" is slightly worrying. Though this could just mean that it hasn't been tested by them yet rather that tested and failed. It has been tested in a university lab and it would make sense not to spend money on expensive certifications untill enough funding is secured.

They have them in Melbourne.  Though I suspect they are polystyrene so not very green
