road.cc wins prestigious web award… okay not the one in the picture

road.cc bags prestigious “Johnnie” award for coverage of cycling

One year in and road.cc has already picked up its first award with the news that our web coverage with the news that we've bagged an ultra-exclusive Johnnie from Bath-based cycle shop, John's Bikes. road.cc beat off competition from another Bath-based cycling website to land the prestigious prize.

Our coverage of Viva bikes was singled out for special praise… not sure if John's will soon be stocking them, but even if they are we're sure there's no connection between that and us winning.

Commenting on the site's first Johnnie, road.cc editor Tony Farrelly said: “It's always nice to win a prize, particularly one as select as this – I think I'm right in saying that this is the first ever Johnnie web award and as such I suppose it's only appropriate that award itself is virtual, but If John's ever get around to making a Johnnie we will obviously make a trophy cabinet to put it in.”

There are only two categories in the Johnnie Awards: the web coverage award and the Sheer made-in-Britain-true-grit-in-the-face-of-adversity-award which went jointly to Hope and to Demon Frameworks. road.cc will be testing Hope's new road wheels soon and we have already reported on the impact Demon Frameworks made at the European Handbuilt Bike Show and last week's London Cycle Show, and there is plenty more to come too.

As ever the last word on the award goes to a clearly elated Farrelly who promised that he wouldn't let road.cc's first big prize go the team's head, before adding: “The cakes are on me!” It'll be going to our waistlines instead then.
