British Cycling has announced the squad of 15 riders that will be competing in the UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships, taking place at the Manchester Velodrome from November 6-8. The team comprises of current World and Paralympic Champions Darren Kenny, Jody Cundy and Sarah Storey, plus some talent new to the Championships, such as Lora Turnham and Neil Fachie.
Performance Manager for Para-Cycling Gareth Shepard said: “We are very excited with the blend of the team and looking forward to our first opportunity to compete on home soil since the Paralympic World Cup in May where we broke several world records.
“Now we have selected our team we are heading to the velodrome in Newport to fine tune our preparations.”
Also included in the team are fellow Beijing gold medallists Mark Bristow, Simon Richardson and Aileen McGlynn.
Scot Fachie, who switched from athletics last year, will ride in the tandem events with the experienced Barney Storey. Storey won gold in Beijing with Anthony Kappes but Kappes is not competing as his new pilot former Olympian Jason Queally is not eligible for international competition until next year.
In the women's tandem events, Turnham and her pilot Rebecca Rimmington, who won bronze in the road race at the Road World Championships in Italy in September, will also be hoping to add to their medal haul.
This is the first time that Manchester has played host to the UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships and tickets are available from www.ticketmaster.com.
