Video: Marcel Kittel teams up with ASO to give Tour de France fans safety advice

Giant-Shimano sprinter Marcel Kittel has teamed up with Tour de France organisers ASO for a video aimed at ensuring the safety of spectators and riders alike during next month’s Tour de France.

The video includes footage of riders crashing into a dog, over-enthusiastic fans getting in the way of cyclists, and a small child almost getting run over by a motorbike.

“Thanks for coming to the Tour to support us,” says Kittel. “Please respect the riders, protect yourself and especially your children.”

The video is released just days after a fan at the Giro d’Italia cost Bardiani-CSF rider Francesco Bongiorno the chance to fight for a stage win on the Zoncolan.

The man, wearing a world champion’s rainbow jersey, gave the rider what was intended to be a helpful push, but instead caused Bongiorno’s bike to touch wheels with that of eventual stage winner Michael Rogers of Tinkoff-Saxo.

Bongiorno had to unclip to avoid falling off and lost all his momentum, while Rogers rode away to the stage win.

Yesterday, we published an interview with Bob Brayshaw, director of safety and security for next month’s Grand Départ of the Tour de France, in which he provides useful advice for spectators.

Hopefully yes. Leave Didi alone. He always keeps his distance and is part of the tradition. So much comparing like with nothing like these days.

As for dog owners. They should be banned. Not just from the tour. Just full stop. It's 'not bred for hunting'. It doesn't understand 'everything I say'. It's just a greedy simpleton you have to literally shovel crap for. Grow up. And get a cat.

Am I the only person who thinks that the unwarranted publicity given to 'Di-di, the devil' is encouraging these pillocks?

Yes you are , I met didi last year in bourg and he was a lovely bloke , more than happy to take time out and pose for pics , he then rode and descended alpe d'huez on a recumbent..... and not once that I know of has he come close to interfering in the race

Only if you don't bring your dog.

Disappointed to see no mention of the persistent use of Mankinis - to my mind these represent the biggest danger of all.
