Tour de France Tech 2014: Peter Sagan’s custom slippers

…or are they special flip flops? Either way marginal gains and all that

Hanging around the team hotels photographing the bikes of the Tour de France you spot many things, but one thing we weren’t expecting to see was Cannondale’s Peter Sagan sporting some personalised footwear.

Yes, we mean his slippers. Cannondale branded across the front with his name stitched in the heel, he looked quite dapper in them, if it's possible to look dapper in a pair of slippers in a hotel car park.

The moment he dismounted his SuperSix Evo after a training ride, he pulled off his Sidi cycling shoes, slipped his slippers on and walked across the car park back to the hotel.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

I got 'red carded' at home for taking my cycle shoes off and walking around in socks and (Birkenstock) sandals!
