Witness appeal after London cyclist dies following collision with bin lorry

Victim named as 40-year-old Henry Lang from Twickenham

Police have launched a witness appeal after a cyclist died from injuries sustained when he was hit by a refuse lorry on Monday morning in Richmond-upon-Thames.

The victim, 40-year-old Henry Lang from Twickenham, was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel but died there of head injuries yesterday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Police say that the driver stopped at the scene of the incident, which took place at around 8am on the A316 Kew Foot Road at the junction with St John's Grove, but was not arrested.

Detective Sergeant John Hartfree from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit in Merton, said: "The road would have been very busy at the time of the collision and I believe that a number of people would have seen the incident.

"I would urge anyone with information to contact us on the Witness Appeal number 020 8543 5157," he added.

Mr Lang is believed to be the ninth cyclist to have been killed in the capital this year, and the second to have lost their life in South West London in the past week, after the death of 25-year-old Laurent Patrick Cullinan following a collision with a Honda Accord in Merton in the early hours of Saturday morning.
