The Leggero is the flagship carbon fibre race bike of London-based Condor Cycles. It has changed much over the years with constant feedback from the Rapha Condor JLT bringing about claimed improvements in stiffness, weight and handling. For 2015 Condor will launch the Leggero SL, which with a claimed 900g weight for a size 55cm, makes it their lightest ever frame.
The new Leggero SL will be shown for the first time at the Cycle Show this week, but here are some brief details about what you can expect from the new model.
The new Leggero SL has been 18 months in development and has already been ridden in anger - Rapha Condor JLT racer Kristian House used his development frame in the USA Pro Challenge in Colorado recently. The SL is aimed at those racers wanting a lightweight option for hilly race courses. The team will continue to use the regular Leggero for flatter races like the Tour of Normandy and the CiCLE Classic, and the SL will be put to use in demanding races like the Tour of Korea and already mentioned USA Pro Challenge.
Frames are gradually getting lighter every year and there’s intense competition for manufacturers sponsoring professional cycling teams to keep apace and provide their athletes with lightweight racing bicycles.
The bike pictured, with a Campagnolo 80th Anniversary Super Record groupset and Hyperon wheels, Continental tubular tyres, new Fizik saddle and Deda Presa carbon handlebar, hits the scales at a claimed 6.23kg (13.73lb). The addition of a power meter and some deep section wheels should get the weight up to the UCI’s 6.8kg minimum weight limit to keep the clipboards at bay.
The new Leggero SL will sit above the current Leggero in the Condor Cycles range, but shares the same geometry. It’s also handbuilt in Italy using the same tube-to-tube manufacturing process, they’ve simply made use of more advanced carbon fibre to put the frame on a diet. And like the regular version, the new Leggero SL will feature a BB30 bottom bracket, tapered head tube and internal cable routing.
The frameset (including Columbus carbon fork, headset and seat collar) will cost £2,999.99. No word on availability at this time.
So get yourself along to the Cycle Show if you want to see the new frame in the flesh. If you haven’t booked your ticket yet use the code RCC to get £1.50 off the price of the £13 advance ticket at the www.cycleshow.co.uk website.

Very glad to see Condor sticking to tube to tube rather than moulding thier top frames, it's something they do very well (the leggero has always ridden beautifully).
If I could double my budget I'd be getting one.
No mounts for mudguards or panniers. Useless
I've ridden my 2009 Leggero across the Alps, Pyrenees, Teide and Majorca. I'm sure the latest Cannondale /Trek / specialized / Canyon et al is lighter, more tech and whatever but the Leggero is a fantastic all day all conditions machine (which has the cognoscenti nodding their approval if you care about that stuff). If I need a lighter bike I'll go on a diet so I don't need the SL but I wouldn't dissuade anyone who pulled the trigger on one, mine has been and remains a superb bike.
Didn't Condor frames used to actually dedaccai? Is that still true?
Partly right. Check out the response from Condor themselves.

No paint = no grams added to the SL. ..superlight...frame...and as CF is not coloured during the tube manufacturing it'll also keep costs down....A bit...but you could always throw on some Humbrol/Airfix colour of your choice....;)
The equivalent Cannondale, which admittedly is a little more expensive when not discounted, weighs 650g and comes with a SISL2 crankset. Why would anyone buy this?
I fully understand why people would buy a steel touring Condor - that's their thing - but a carbon race bike? (which incidentally looks awfully similar to a Planet X pro carbon frame)
#ShopLocal (well, if you're local anyway, which I am). I don't need a new bike just yet, and I'm not sure if this would win over a Trek or an S-Works, but... Well, call me a sucker, but my Fratello has a soul. I almost feel bad that she's my winter bike and gets covered in muck all the time. She is Italian, after all, and gets rather emotional.
Totally agree - adore my Fratello too. Don't think I could ever feel the same about a stealth carbon frame...
Condor nails it again, truly beautiful.
Oh.. that is so pretty. Not sure I can justify a bike that's only used for going uphill though.
How about reviving the old Condor team colours, orange and blue?
How exciting another black frame...
Seriously though, great to see Condor mixing it up with the big names in cycle production, hopefully the frame will be available with some more interesting colour schemes.
This is a pre-production development frame and hasn't been through the paint shop yet, I'm sure there will be colour options available when it is in production - though that said the current Leggero is only available in black or white
Yep, the final version will be a slightly blacker shade of black, with a hint of midnight black on the top tube.
