Right, we’ve waded through the 1220 comments you left about what you like most about autumn cycling which included having to read POEMS (note to self, never, ever, ever ask people to do that again) but the psychic trauma has been worth it. We have a winner… and because the standard of entries was so high a couple of bonus runners up too who will be getting some roadcc socks.
Our Vulpine Schwag Grab podium is filled by the speakers of two universal cycling truths and one rather personal truth.
Almost but not quite for robbiezhaorobbiezhao for masterful use of the sympathy card with “The cold rivals that of the heart of my wife” - until you realise that it’s not really that cold at this time of the year, even in East Anglia. (Maybe we should send her some socks too.)
Socks also for tells-it-like-it-is “I just love wearing tights” from wrevilo but somehow it lacks the poe… magic of our winner the tells it like it even more is:
“Shining torch through the fog/mist whilst making light saber noises. Obviously…” by Mattclimb
Yep, that's autumn!
Our winner and runners up have been informed - those who posted poems about nature’s paintbrush turning the trees the colours of their fave beige Vulpine shorts - your names are on a list. First offence, but don’t push it eh.
Thanks to Vulpine for a fab competition, thanks to all of you who entered, commiserations to the 1219 of you that didn’t win, but there WILL be another schwag grab along soon.
=====================================================================================
The whole caboodle is worth more than £500 (£502 to be precise) and includes Vulpine’s:
Original Rain Jacket
Cotton rain trousers
Long Sleeve Merino T-shirt/base layer
Padded Merino Boxer/Boyshorts
Storm Cap
Dogtooth Merino Silk Socks
We’ll pick the lucky winner next Monday, usual Schwag Grab rules apply.
You can find out more about Vulpine's autmn/winter range at www.vulpine.cc
Good luck!

Choosing what to wear and then smiling when you see other people who decided on shorts when it's definitely leg warmer weather!
It puts hairs on your chest
Doing easy back wheel skids through the autumnal leaves.
The early morning /evening fog adds excitement to a friendly game of "spot the kangaroo"
Plus the wet rides bring a certain satisfaction when you make it home for a warm shower.
I love cycling all year round, each season has its own ways to enjoy cycling. Autumn is the enjoyment of going through woodland trails & see the changes in the leaves. Cooler, drier days make the best days to cycle in & often quieter rides as people tend to stay in than walk around in the autumn weather.
Got to love how the autumn light make the countryside looks!
The crunch of tyres in the morning over frost incrusted leaves, riding into the embrace of a russet dawn.
The awesome colours of the trees.. The fresh frozen air clearing your lungs.... The awesome workout into the wind.. The epic tail wind for hyper speed... It's not the weather you just need the right clothes!!
The smell of the leaves. The feel of soft merino base layers against my skin. The welcoming warmth of the cafe. And most importantly the aromatic espresso that greets me inside.
The sound of dry leaves when you ride through them, when it's dry of course!?
To be able to use clothes (warm jacket, long sleeves, long legs, rain jacket, cap...) that has been stoved away in the closet all summer.
The quietness on the road (few others out cycling) and the fantastic colors on the trees with yellow, orange and red leaves
The colours, the pretenatural brightness of things and the heightened sense of awareness/oneness.
Just in time for the end of summer!
What I love about riding in the autumn, is waking up at 4:30 am, being out on the bike by 5 in the pitch black when no one else is around, riding out into the country.
Then an hour or so into the ride starting to see the first glimmers of light come over the horizon, then if I've timed it right, I can just get to the south downs valley snd see some amazing sun rises over the Kent countryside, as the sky turns the most amazing shades of orange, pink and red, with flocks of geese flying in V shapes through the air off on their winter migration, and clouds of mist lay in the valleys, waiting to numb your ears on those long descents. Truely a breathtaking site to behold.
Makes getting up so early worth while. Even if it is just 3 degrees outside!
This would be absolutely fantastic. Hit me!
As the summer passes the bike storage at work gets emptier and you can tell the true believers who care not about dark and cold starts
Getting out on the bike. Getting wet on the bike and not really feeling cold to the bone
I don't like the heat so the cool autumn air is the perfect intro to the cold winter weather I love.
Sun rise with no one else on the road.
Switching from road to mountain bike or bmx and, taking up a big pile of leaves then riding through them.
The joy of autumn is getting up and never truly knowing what kind of weather you are going to get!
Tailwind becomes tailgale...
Early morning rides as the sun rises through a light mist, a touch of a chill in the air but I'm toasty and warm with gloves, kneewarmers, a long sleeve jersey and a buff.
Autumn, favourite season of the year. Colours, smells, clear skies, still days.
Just returned from Autumn riding in Girona, even better.
Love cycling in autumn. Crisp and clear. Dark and Moody. Riding into the dark in the evening. It's great.
Falling leaves & avoiding conkers,
Having the bike rack at work to myself again
Having been delivering Bikeability training in the rain today I have to say the thing I loved was that despite having worked really hard and being wet through, every single one of the kids voted to go for a lanes ride at the end of the day. How could I feel cold and wet in the face of such youthful enthusiasm for cycling?
Putting on a few extra layers to warm up for the chilly mornings/nights.
This autumn I will mostly be enjoying the fact that I can ride through autumn, as last year I was nursing tedious elbow problems. That and the nice weather which happens most of the time, and bad weather with good jacket that happens the rest. All good
