Car flips - please post your local news stories

And there are points, which you can claim for your story. The person with the most points wins a table for four at The Farmer's Dog (second prize : two tables🫢).

The scoring system will probably evolve, in fact suggestions for additional points can be made, but for starters:

Score one point for each of:

Clear picture of car on its roof or side

30 mph limit /residential road

Audi, BMW or "super-car"

Article doesn't mention a driver

Car flips onto its roof in dramatic crash off busy Nottingham roundabout

I make it three points (photo of car on roof, residential road and no mention of a driver).

A four pointer I'd argue. 30 zone, plenty of pictures, no driver (yet paradoxically a 'professional' driver), not a supercar but supersized, and how about half a point for both lanes blocked ' beyond rush hour!'.

Car flips onto side after crash on Boscombe Overcliff Drive

All the more remarkable because it looks like a pick-up actually being used to carry heavy/bulky stuff. I like how the Mini behind is almost saying "FFS, HOW?"

Emergency services called to River Medway near Strood Retail Park and Morrisons after car gets stuck in mud

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said it was called to reports a vehicle had left the road when it became stuck in the mud.

if you change "when" to "then", you're closer to what happened here.

I can't find a news story, but this is just across the river from me. It's done quite a number on that telephone pole. I've biked on this stretch of road about a half dozen times.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PeoriaIL/comments/1h6pcsp/caution_car_roll_over...

Somewhere around here. It's a shitty 45 MPH road with no shoulder. I have a better route now.

Just spotted this comment:

If you haven't seen it, Peoria Area Scanner & Dashcam has a video of it from a dashcam posted on Facebook.

I came up on the accident while they were loading the victim onto the stretcher.  It was a 19 year old girl, she actually responded to the dashcam footage on FB and said that she broke her back in two places.

My husband broke his back this summer so I now know more about spinal fractures than I ever thought I'd need to know.  I reckon she'll have an easier recovery at 19 than my husband's had at 44.  A lot of people were praying for her today, I'm so glad that she's (relatively) ok.  There was a fatal accident practically spitting distance from there in July, in that case it was a drunk 16 year old who killed her friend 2

Here's the video, if you have Facebook.

Plus points for being a driverless car, in a 30mph area. Double bonus points for flipping over a wall and into a cemetery.

Minus points for only being on its side, not on the roof

https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/24774117.scholemoor-cemetery...

EDIT: -The newspaper is now reporting that two people have died in this incident. It appears from the news report that they were driving INSIDE the cemetery - using the roads inside the cemetery as a race track  - when they flipped the car.

Rather artistic photo of this (driverless) car that has ended up on its roof on a dead straight road in Bradford.

https://www.bristol247.com/news-and-features/news/car-left-balancing-on-...

Quote:

A car was left in a bizarre position after it collided with a parked car on Saturday.

The blue Audi that collided with a grey BMW parked in Roseberry Park in Redfield was left almost halfway floating in the air, as it balanced itself on three wheels.

No reference to a driver or even a passenger - the nearest is "The police have confirmed that no injuries were reported due to the collision."

At 2.30pm on Saturday a small hatchback car "came to rest on its side in a precarious position" near the hamlet of Ratlinghope on the west side of the Long Mynd. Three occupants "were escorted out of it". No photo, I'm afraid.

Egged on by the others, the youngest of the Audis makes the first move.Young and hopeful, it moves in to strike, however youth and inexperience play against the youngling. It attempts it's first mounting maneouvre, relying on it's target not being able to move out of the way, but clearly has no idea how to do the deed.

Surprising- Honda drivers are usually careful, although prone to confuse the brake and accelerator in EVs and smashing down the public toilets (I actually saw this happen here).

A classic! Featuring:

Quote:

It is a dangerous road, and that's been proved year after year.

I do have some sympathy with "someone gave humans a powered vehicle that could go faster than 5mph, what do you think will happen?" But I'm gonna guess it's not really the road...

Also "waiting for insurance company" - shades of the urban horse-transport crisis of the 19th century where horses rotted in the streets awaiting insurance confirmation that they had actually died in harness...

I cycled past a flipped car last night on Cranbrook Rd, Bristol but it doesn't seem to be reported anywhere. Quite impressive as it was fully on its roof and a whole section of the road was closed.

Meanwhile we have this one on the M32: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/live-m4-traffic-car-overturns-9676596
