Bono bike crash puts U2 TV slots on ice

Singer needs surgery after "spill" in Central Park...

Rock band U2 have been forced to cancel a series of TV appearances after lead singer Bono crashed his bike in New York's Central Park.

According to a brief announcement on the band's website, Bono — real name Paul Hewson — injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and will need surgery.

The band had been due to appear on The Tonight Show every day this week, but that's now on hold.

"It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time," the band said. "We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back!"

Bono is reported to be a keen cyclist and earlier this year was snapped riding with his wife Alison Hewson near their French holiday home in Eze-sur-Mer.

John has been writing about bikes and cycling for over 30 years since discovering that people were mug enough to pay him for it rather than expecting him to do an honest day's work.

He was heavily involved in the mountain bike boom of the late 1980s as a racer, team manager and race promoter, and that led to writing for Mountain Biking UK magazine shortly after its inception. He got the gig by phoning up the editor and telling him the magazine was rubbish and he could do better. Rather than telling him to get lost, MBUK editor Tym Manley called John’s bluff and the rest is history.

Since then he has worked on MTB Pro magazine and was editor of Maximum Mountain Bike and Australian Mountain Bike magazines, before switching to the web in 2000 to work for CyclingNews.com. Along with road.cc founder Tony Farrelly, John was on the launch team for BikeRadar.com and subsequently became editor in chief of Future Publishing’s group of cycling magazines and websites, including Cycling Plus, MBUK, What Mountain Bike and Procycling.

John has also written for Cyclist magazine, edited the BikeMagic website and was founding editor of TotalWomensCycling.com before handing over to someone far more representative of the site's main audience.

He joined road.cc in 2013. He lives in Cambridge where the lack of hills is more than made up for by the headwinds.

So much jealousy floating through here ?

IF reporting that BONO had a prat fall , helps keep the mug driver from driving TOO CLOSE to Cyclists as they force their way thru traffic , the article will have proved beneficial !

Currently in Sydney and finding that the reality here is not as bad as reported in the headlines .

Clover Moore could start Cycle lanes at the intersectiions rather than 50 -100m up the road , but then , no matter how quick you get going again some will have to spin their wheels as they shower Cyclists with their unnecessary exhaust fumes .

Goodness, I don't envy bono much but it'd be nice to have a house down near Nice. His is right on the sea. Much nicer up in the hills I think, for the cycling and the view. I suppose his is handier for the yacht-based pals!

Recently heard this sanctimonious t*t being interviewed. Sick of hearing millionaire tax dodgers telling the rest of us how our governments should spend our taxes on their causes. Interviewers appear unable to ask these type of people the hard questions that politicians face.

Have there been any requests on here for help choosing a new bike along the lines of:

'Hi guys. Looking for some advice on choosing a bike. I'll mainly be riding it with my multi-millionaire, rockstar husband around Central Park. I have an unlimited budget but don't really want to spend more than about £500.'

I love the way you always have to quote his real name, like it's relevant to anything.

Yeah, if I had to be married to Bono I'd be looking for a better bike. Nowt wrong with B'twin, obviously, but still, Bono....

Could I politely request that all Daily Heil links are clearly marked as such?

I've just ended up clicking on that link before realising and I would prefer to not boost their websites figures.

You need to get a browser that shows a handy-dandy address for a link. It will greatly improve your security, as well as preventing you from being offended by the Daily Fail's tat in future.

HTH.
