Six-part cycling TV series to be broadcast on Freeview TV channel

On Your Bike will focus on cyclist’s travels around Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire

A new six-part TV series about one cyclist’s travels in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire is to be broadcast this month. Estuary TV will show On Your Bike from Friday July 10 with episodes available online once they have been broadcast.

On Your Bike sees Luke Adams cycling across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire, meeting locals and hearing their stories.

“From the cobbled streets of Beverley to the shores of a chilly Scarborough beach, I’ve cycled a few hundred miles across our beautiful coastline, where I’ve made chocolate, become friends with Penguins and Puffins, enjoyed a light refreshment in England’s smallest pub and placed a bet on the horses.”

Adams says that as well as becoming slightly fitter, he’s learned about the world of cycling and its various communities. The first episode sees him visit Beverley, where he discovers a new cycling café, chats to the local branch of CTC and discovers how a church in the area is connected to Lewis Carroll.

The programme will be sponsored by Safer Roads Humber. Spokesperson, Ruth Gore, said:

“We were awarded a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in December 2014 for the work we do to raise awareness of cycle safety and we were very pleased to continue this work by sponsoring On Your Bike – a TV series which communicates to cyclists and drivers the importance of sharing the road

“We have a Cycle Yorkshire – Ride The Routes app and Facebook page, an Urban Cycle Guide which is available on YouTube and undertake radio and bus back campaigns to ask drivers and cyclists to look out for each other. We hope, by raising awareness of road safety issues, that cyclists are able to use roads safely.”

On Your Bike will go out weekly from Friday, July 10. Estuary TV can be found on Freeview channel 8 and on Virgin Media channel 159 with episodes available online once they have been broadcast. Until then, here’s a short trailer.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Sounds like a UK version of a series here in NZ called "Along For The Ride"

Look on the bright side: it's a useful thing for Safer Roads Humber to do with their money. Not brilliant, but more people cycling could mean fewer motorists, so safer roads.

I'm looking forward to the program as it's in my home area. I'd love to comment on Safer Roads Humber but can't afford the legal costs it would entail although I've yet to see them do anything to make roads safer including their vehicles sticking to speed limits. 4
