I'm confused by the comments about busy traffic, that isn't busy traffic.
It is in no way the cyclists fault. If the guy stepped out a few yards further up, where the crossing was and the cyclist hit him then yeah totally.
You wouldn't (one would hope) step out in front of a car doing that speed.
Tank top and tights? Was it hot or cold? So confusing.
He'd have run into the van opposite if he hadn't hit the bike.
If it wasn't deliberate the kid is a fucking idiot and shouldn't be allowed outside on his own.
I don't think it was deliberate, he probably wasn't expecting a bike to be going 25mph however it does look like he was probably off to load up the wheelchair with lead or copper wiring.
Looks very intentional to me. Why run in to the road when there's a perfectly good purpose built zebra crossing?
He was probably hoping the cyclist would swerve and hit something else.
The headline should read 'Sleeveless jersey attracts wheelchair retribution'.
The kid brought the wheelchair so the triathlete wouldn't have to endure any down time despite being crippled.
Just an aside: I've had a few days off and now realise all these road.cc traffic conflict stories are a bit weird and unnecessary.
Ha! Yes, I kinda agree. I try not to look at the video nasties on here as they often just upset me, make me wonder about the general state of mankind and put me off riding. This one hooked me though, think it was the Garmin read out?!
Generally I think they just provide us with a reason to form battle lines rather than work to some kind of mutual tolerance, which generally is an approach I prefer to try to take in life... call me naive

It looks deliberate to me, but it's impossible to tell for sure. And yes, the cyclist was riding a little carelessly (because he had his hands on the tribars in busy traffic, not because of speed), but that doesn't justify anything. More importantly though:
(So why am I posting this? )
Easy copy: if it bleeds, it leads.
In fairness, the road.cc team won't have a great deal of resource to do lots of more investigative or in-depth stuff.
Tend to agree that this looks deliberate based on the brief moments that we see the kid's body language before and after. He almost seems to push the wheelchair into the path of the bike. There could be an innocent explanation but the chances of a kid of this age in full ASBO attire pushing around an empty wheelchair for a legitimate reason seem slim to me.
Maybe the kid wanted to get his £250 from Harry Hill...?
So he ran out onto a road with an empty wheelchair from behind a stationary car and into a steady stream of traffic from the other direction while he was looking at the cyclist all the time because... he wanted to get to the other side?
I'm confused. I thought when cyclists are T boned by people pulling out without looking it's time to lynch the assailant, not blame the victim. What did I get wrong?
Ah, "Birmingham".
I wouldn't say it looked like the kid did it on purpose! You can tell from his body language and facial expression that he wasn't expecting the cyclist!
Well I'd be off down to the police station with that, looks entirely deliberate and premeditated, usually called assault.
Everyone got lucky in that incident. If it had been the BMW following that the kid ran out in front of though...
Hands not near the brakes in traffic.
I made that mistake only once. (hopefully)
WTF looks like the kids did this on purpose
Moron pushed the wheelchair out from behind a car...
Trisexuals doing 50km in dense urban areas... Not advisable, but it's still not their fault if they're following laws.
Indeed. I mean, it's actually only 38kmh. Or, if you like, 5 mph less than the motorised speed limit...........
I reckon the little shit did it on purpose. He saw the cyclist approaching and continued to push the wheel chair out into the road and path of the cyclist. He should be in it with 2 broken legs. There is only a pedestrian crossing 30 feet away. Scum.
At least the wheelchair is Tax'd, Mot'd and Insured.....
Doing a TT in a built up area, not recommended !
Only a few yards from a pedestrian crossing, muppet!
Not advisable to use time trial bars in built up areas
6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
Dozy kid. Triathlete
Take your pick.
