From next week, youngsters in Wales will be able to develop key life skills while having fun on their bike’s thanks to next Wednesday’s launch of Bike Club in the Principality.
The project is a joint initiative of national cyclists’ organisation CTC, Youth Cymru, the umbrella body for youth groups in Wales, and ContinYou Cymru, which supports community-focused schools across the country including providing extra-curricular activities for children and young adults.
Bike Club itself seeks to inspire youngsters aged between 10 and 20 take part in and lead “creative, fun and inclusive activities,” working alongside youth clubs and schools, and will initially launch in Cardiff and the surrounding area. It also aims to use cycling as a means of promoting physical activity, particularly among socially disadvantaged youngsters.
Melanie Davies, Bike Club Development Officer for Cardiff, said: “Bike Club is an exciting opportunity for children and young people to engage in fun, interesting and unique cycling activities. I’m looking forward to working with groups of young people and helping them to apply for funding.”
Initially developed by the Department for Transport, Bike Club’s arrival in Wales has been made possible with the help of funding from supermarket chain Asda’s Pedal Power fundraising campaign.
