A cyclist who was killed yesterday on Anglesey in a collision involving a Ford Transit van celebrated his last birthday – his 70th – by riding up the iconic Sa Calobra climb on Mallorca, it has been revealed.
Robert Idris Llewellyn, known as Bob, died at the scene of the crash which happened at 7.40am on the morning of Tuesday 5 April on the B5109 at Trefor, near Holyhead.
In a statement issued via North Wales Police, his family described the 70-year-old as “an inspiration.”
They said: “We are devastated by the loss of Bob – a much loved father, grandfather and husband.
“He was full of life and a real character, courageous and funny and stubborn, too.
“He was an inspiration to many people, spending his 70th Birthday cycling up Sa Calobra with Owain, his son.
“He will be missed by us all.”
Police have repeated an appeal for witnesses to the fatal collision and in particular want to speak with a motorcycle rider whom they believe may have information.
Temporary Sergeant Trystan Bevan, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing and we are keen to trace the motorcyclist, who was travelling from the crossroads towards the general direction of Holyhead sometime between 7am and 8am.
“I would urge the motorcyclist, if they see this appeal, to come forward as they may have information that could assist our investigation.
“Similarly, if anyone has any further information about the collision and has not yet spoken to us, please do get in touch.”
Anyone who has information is requested to contact the Western Roads Policing Unit in Llandegai on 101, quoting reference number U048417.

I love how wannabe racer reviewers talk about fork flex under braking like their tyres are made of glue. I find traction gives long before fork flex.
They don't make them like they used to
