Cyclist killed in London HGV collision named – Stop Killing Cyclists to hold vigil and die-in

Lucia Ciccioli was sixth London cyclist to die in a collision this year

Stop Killing Cyclists are to hold a vigil and ‘die-in’ at the spot where a cyclist was killed following a collision with an HGV in London on Monday. The victim has now been named as Lucia Ciccioli, an Italian woman who is believed to have been travelling to her new job at a restaurant when she was killed.

The London Evening Standard reports that Ciccioli had been living in London for four years and had just started working for a chain of Vietnamese restaurants.

The collision occurred at around 8am and Ciccioli was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, thought to have been working for a third-party contractor for British Gypsum, stopped following the collision. Police have made no arrests but the incident is being investigated by detectives from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

Cycling campaign group Stop Killing Cyclists will be holding a ‘die-in’ at the junction of Lavender Hill and Elspeth Road, where the incident took place, on Monday October 31. They will meet at 5.30pm with speeches at 6pm. More details can be found on Facebook.

The group is also calling on Mayor Sadiq Khan to expedite the introduction of the ban on HGVs in London and is asking for more information on the safety star rating system which has been proposed for such vehicles.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
