'Spider' network of footpaths and cycleways for Inverness?

Proposal one of several considered for future growth of Highland capital

A network of streets, footpaths and cycleways nicknamed “the Spider” is being proposed in Inverness to make it easier for people to get around the Highland capital.

The proposal is one of a series of options being put forward in a document outlining plans for the city’s growth called Inverness City Vision, compiled by Highland Council.

The report's authors say that creating high quality routes for pedestrians and cyclists could make it easier for young people, families and older residents to get around Inverness, and would involve a close examination of existing infrastructure and consideration of how improvements could be made, for example through integrating transport options with design elements such as public art.

The document, which expands on proposals first drawn up in 2003, will now be considered further by local councilors.
