London bike ride on 10 January marks first anniversary of rock legend David Bowie's death

There’s little doubt that this has been a year of shocks and the first – and one of the biggest – came just a week and a half into 2016 with the news that rock legend David Bowie had passed away.

The Brixton-born singer, songwriter and actor succumbed to cancer on 10 January just two days after his 69th birthday, to the shock of fans around the world.

Next month, to mark the first anniversary of his death, iBikeLondon’s monthly cycle through the city’s streets will be titled ‘Ride With Bowie’ in tribute to him – with a musical accompaniment, of course.

Covering 20-25km at a slow to medium pace, it will start outside the British Film Institute on the South Bank and finish in Windrush Square, Brixton, a few hundred yards from Bowie’s birthplace on Stansfield Road.

 Anniversaries being anniversaries, it’s on a school night (Tuesday), but we’d expect a decent turnout – here’s what the organisers have to say:

Join iBikeLondon on a specially themed David Bowie Bike Ride through the streets of South London to mark the one year anniversary of the musical vanguard. We will finish at Windrush Square for a Bowie style street party.

Dress up in your favourite David Bowie inspired outfit and we’ll keep the buzz going with music booming from our infamous fleet of disco bikes! 

We’ll be kicking off at 6.30pm at our usual meeting point outside the BFI to get rolling at 7.00pm.

The ride will be at a relaxed pace and all abilities are welcome!
