I'm a bit concerned officers have undertaken an advanced cycling qualification in the belief this will help 'to ensure their safety'....as if doing that somehow circumnavigates the bigger issue of motorists simply being dangerous.
Be interested to look at the health and safety/risk assessment undertaken for the employees involved, surprised they were even signed off to do something so dangerous.
Presumably they'll be wearing a helmet as well to protect them against a vehicular impact
Surely the 1.5m indicated between the kerb and car in that video is wrong. The mats suggest the safe passsing distance is 1.5m from the cyclist.
I have to admit that I didn't watch the video: I saw the picture, and agree with the sentiment that the ideal safe passing distance is "if they fell over and were lying full-length, would I run them over or not?"
I've always thought that that image of a chalk line outline is a far better representation of how widely to pass a cyclist than the distances and lines on the close-passing mat.
