Mark Beaumont is now in Canada’s Yukon province on the third stage of his Artemis World Cycle challenge to circumnavigate the globe by bike in 80 days or less.
The Scottish adventurer landed in Anchorage, Alaska the day before yesterday and crossed the border between the United States and Canada yesterday.
He’d flown to Anchorage from New Zealand after completing the third leg of his journey through Australasia, and wrote on Facebook: “Arrived safely in Alaska – quick feast, sleep in a proper bed and looking forwards to a 4am start to leg 3.
“It's been very odd not cycling for a day. And even odder travelling for a day and arriving 2 hours after we took off!
“(International Date Line if that sentence needs explanation!).”
The 34-year-old is now setting off on the 52nd day of his challenge, and having lost time in Australia when a driver crashed into the back of his support vehicle near Melbourne, made it back while in New Zealand.
He wrote on Facebook: “We've actually made a day on schedule now, which is an amazing buffer to have at this stage. It was an absolute high to reach Auckland, having had a peloton of riders keeping me company on my final day in New Zealand. The support's been pretty mind-blowing."
On the third leg of the journey, Beaumont is heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia. His route of approximately 5,900 miles criss-crosses the border, taking in locations including Edmonton and Montreal in Canada, and Minneapolis and Green Bay in the United States.
From Halifax, Beaumont will fly to Lisbon then head back to the start in Paris via Madrid, Bilbao and Bordeaux.
You can track his progress on the Artemis World Cycle website.

Should have set off a week earlier and seen the eclipse when cycling across the US. And no Africa or South America? I would have started in Morocco at least. And who drew the maps on your website, just wrong. Um, keep going though.
