London cyclist pushed into bus stop suffered minor injuries and is expected to make full recovery

Met Police's Major Crimes Unit still investigating...

Police have made contact with the London cyclist who was filmed being pushed off his bike and into a bus stop by a car passenger last week. He reportedly suffered only minor injuries and says he has been ‘overwhelmed’ by support expressed via social media.

A video taken from inside a vehicle shows a passenger pushing the cyclist off his bike and into a bus stop on one of the capital's Cycle Superhighways.

Communicating via Twitter yesterday, the Met Police’s Cycle Safety Team said: “We are aware of the footage of a cyclist being pushed of his bike. This was reported at the time and is being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit.”

The officer manning the account added: “I have made contact with the cyclist involved in this incident. He is overwhelmed with support this incident has attracted on social media.

“He is himself not on Twitter but wanted me to let people know he suffered minor injuries and is recovering well at home.”

The Cycle Safety Team also reported that the victim’s bike was damaged and will require new handlebars and a front wheel.

The location has been identified as Balham Hill, SW12 on Cycle Superhighway 7. Anyone with information can contact the Metropolitan Police Cycle Safety Team via Twitter.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Many of the recent comments online about cyclists in general and Charlie Alliston in particular could well be good candidates for a charge of incitement to violence. Some of the comments about what people would like to happen to him are truly sickening.

Seems that now it's becoming socially unacceptable/illegal to vent your spleen about things like religion and LGBT, for example, cyclists are the next-in-line target for general hatred.

I find it staggering that people can even think like that, let alone proudly post it online.

I feel so exausted by this constant hate towards others, just because they happen to be on a bike. It's never ending. I'm genuinely emotionally drained by it all.

The only way I feel able to resist the hatred is by boycotting all companies except those that are signed up to a sustainable outlook. Bypass the old economy and the old mentality.

Can I join you in your emotional drain as this is how I feel about the world right now   I'm not enjoying the 21st century

Don't be so pessimistic. The 21st century is a more peaceful, less violent century with less wars poverty and famine than ever before. See, look, we are moving to the Health-Wealthy end of the graph [RIP Prof Hans Rosling.] We have more sustainable energy, we've discovered Gravity waves and the Higgs Boson. We have Brian Cox and Exoplanets. We have carbon bikes and mobile broadband. HIV drugs, sterile Mosquitos and Jimmy Carter! Don't worry about Donald Trump, he is just here to boost Stephen Colbert's ratings. England will win the World cup in 2066 and we will all be holidaying on Mars by end of the century.

It really doesn't require a bike to have someone be an asshat, as proven only recently when that jogger knocked over that woman into the road and she luckily avoided getting squashed by the bus as the driver managed to swerve. I just hope they find these people and prosecute them properly by increasing the punishment for what could of been.
