Video: Motorbiker aims kick at cyclists

A road.cc reader has filmed the moment the rider of what he believes was a stolen motorbike kicked out at him and two other cyclists while they were out for a ride.

The incident, captured on video by road.cc reader Michael, happened on the evening of Wednesday 13 June on Coventry Road in Coleshill, Birmingham.

From the real-time footage, shot on a rear-facing camera, it’s difficult to see what happened.

But the slow-motion footage at the end of the video clearly shows the motorcyclist, who had taken his foot off the peg, aiming a kick at the rider behind Michael.

He was out for an evening ride with his father and a friend when it happened, and initially they believed the motorcyclist had crossed onto their side of the road because he was going to turn right.

Michael – who rides motorbikes as well as bicycles – estimated the rider’s speed at around 40 miles an hour, and says he was riding at 20 miles an hour.

He told us that he was riding a little further out in the road than is father ahead of him and their friend behind, and that the motorcyclist came within a foot of his handlebars.

The motorbike was a blue Yamaha R1 from 2005/06, according to Michael, and there are a couple of reasons he believes it may have been stolen, one of those being the absence of a licence plate on the rear.

“There wouldn't be any other reason to take the plate off,” he explained, “plus there's a high-powered BMW the bike was behind that allows him in front.

“Motorcycle thieves normally have another car or bike close to help stop anyone seeing it's missing its number plate,” he added.

I believe what this means is that there was a high-powered BMW accompanying the motorbike theft and that its purpose would have been to prevent onlookers from witnessing the lack of number plate on the motorcycle. So long as the motorcycle remained in front of the BMW.
However, this wouldn't explain why the motorbike appeared to be overtaking the BMW at the time.

Just timing ? Highly unlikely. Yeah high peg placement can get really uncomfortable after a while but never thought, or heard from anyone, about stretching a leg whilst overtaking in anything like that situation. No sense, just all wrong. My vote would be on the person being a shite. Could be wrong but hey...

Everyone knows that a foot of the peg is the motorcyclist saying "thank you", unfortunately it would appear that this particular wanker wasn't thanking anyone.

As for stretching his leg....

And as for Newton and physics, you think the dull cunt could think that far ahead?

Let's try that again ...

Is it it likely that even a "dull cunt" would at some point in the years of their life have figured out that kicking something really hard that doesn't move is bloody painful?

(Even if they don't understand the physics behind it.)

If they know it is going to be painful, would they be likely have any intent to make contact?

I doubt if many motorcyclists stretch their legs whilst overtaking, the look behind says deliberate to me.  I doubt if the aggresive moron was thinking much about physics.

It is not clear to me that it was a deliberate kick at the cyclist.

Firstly, If you're riding one of those sports motorcycles like an R1 they are quite cramped and can get very uncomfortable, wanting to stretch out a legs is not unusual.

Then, it's not like kicking an empty tin can. It's an adult male, maybe  >70kg travelling towards the prat on the motorcycle with a closing speed of > 50mph. Newtonian mechanics would not be friendy to either of them. If the two had connected, aside from the injuries to the cyclist, at those speeds the motorcylist  would almost certainly have damaged their leg from the intial impact, unseated themselves and in all likelihood crashed.

It's undebatable that the motorcyclist was a moron with a death wish for overtaking and riding at those speeds in that type of environment. What is debatatable though is whether they were vicious morons with no knowledge that they would f**k themselves up as well. Perhaps it was just sh*t timing?
