2. Revolutionary Super Magnesium alloy concept bike to debut at NAHBS
The company behind a revolutionary new magnesium frame material will debut a concept bike at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) this weekend. The Super Magnesium alloy developed by US firm Allite is claimed to be lighter and stiffer than aluminium and less expensive than carbon fibre. It weighs a claimed 30% less than aluminium and just as “strong and effective” as carbon but at a more affordable price.

3. WAYV launch safety harness and helmet headset with LED indicators, and they're crowdfunding on Kickstarter
This isn't the first cycling safety product covered in flashing indicators to appear on Kickstarter, and it certainly won't be the last... but even so, WAYV(link is external) say their smart wearable system, consisting of a harness, headset and remote, is "unlike anything else out on the market" thanks to the strategic placing of the indicators that "provide maximum visibility in any riding position".

4. Police use close pass footage to prosecute cyclist for riding on shared-use path
A cyclist who submitted footage of a close pass to the Met Police has learned that he himself is to be prosecuted. The force says road.cc reader Giles is guilty of riding a pedal cycle on a footpath – but the cyclist points out that the stretch in question is a well-marked shared-use path.

5. Pedestrian causes crash in Tirenno-Adriatico TTT, dog walker narrowly missed by another team
Peter Sagan's Bora-Hansgrohe teammates Rafal Majka and Oscar Gatto were taken down by a pedestrian midway through the opening stage of Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy this afternoon. Sagan was also nearly involved but managed to keep his time trial bike upright on the wet roads in Lido di Camaiore.

10. Parliamentary committee issues call for evidence as it launches road safety inquiry
A parliamentary committee has launched an inquiry into road safety, with the House of Commons Transport Select Committee issuing a call for evidence. The committee points out that while there was a more than 40 per cent decline in the number of people killed on Britain’s roads from 2007-12, there has been no reduction in the past five years.
