Leeds Headrow and Town Hall (credit Welcome to Yorkshire www.yorkshire.com)Three segregated cycleways planned in Leeds to cover ‘missing links’
Transport bosses in Leeds are looking to build segregated cycleways on Dewsbury Road, Clay Pit Lane and Elland Road, with work expected to start early next year. A report by Leeds City Council says these areas are “key missing links” in cycle infrastructure.
Leeds Live reports that the £6m project, which has been set up by West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), will be discussed by Leeds City Council’s executive board today.
The Clay Pit Lane proposals are for a segregated cycle track between the junctions of Sheepscar and Woodhouse Lane.
On Dewsbury Road, cycle tracks would be installed between Garnet Road and Beeston Ring Road; and also between Hunslet Hall Road and junction 3 of the M621. These would link existing cycle tracks already in place.

On Elland Road, a two-way segregated lane would be added between Elland Road park and ride and Leeds Bridge.
A Leeds City Council report states: “The schemes essentially form key missing links in the infrastructure not covered by other funding streams and where no suitable alternatives are available.
“By helping form a complete and coherent network they have every potential to maximise benefits and usage.”
Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2020 and be completed by the spring of 2021.

segregated cycle lane from elland road park and ride to leeds bridge in the city centre approx 4 miles away? all the way? will believe this when i see it.
In some ways this is good news - these are absolutely horrid roads to cycle on, and there are no real alteratives if you want to travel out of Leeds city centre to either Chapeltown or Beeston directions. It would be filling in some gaps in cycle infrastructure.
My main concern is that about the actual standard of the cycle infrastructure - this is Leeds council, the people who put bus shelters in the middle of brand new cycle lanes (https://road.cc/content/news/229242-leeds-council-builds-bus-stop-cycle-...) and City Connect, the people behind the 75cm wide, 29 million pound cycle 'super' highway (https://road.cc/content/news/190487-cityconnect-defends-75cm-leeds-bradf...)
I hope my concerns are misplaced, but I do worry. Much of the planned new cycle infrastructure in Leeds city centre involves shared use paths between cyclists and pedestrians, which is gross stupidity (https://leedscitycentretransport.commonplace.is/about)
