The only place where I can be sure that motor vehicles are being driven within the speed limit is where there is a camera, everywhere else, only if congestion or conditions dictate.
The Derbyshire article states that they are to be switched off after "it was proved that they were not justified".
Pardon? You can "prove" a fact, or that a hypothesis is true. ie a fact, but you cannot "prove" a subjective opinion.
As for the notion that the speed doesn't justify their use, well duh! if you know there is a speed camera there, you'd have to be dopey not to slow down, wouldn't you?
