Eurobike faves: Shocker stand

The stand of the German distributor of ENVE is as good a place as any to reignite the CX discs debate...

Discs. The will-they-won't-they of discs on road bikes continues, but in 'cross circles the argument is a step ahead, with UCI approval and an increasing number of pro riders adopting them.

But will 'cross go the way of mountain biking, with discs taking over completely in the next few years? There's more and more manufacturers producing disc-specific kit, but at the same time plenty of nice canti-equipped bikes coming off the production lines. German distributors Shocker had plenty from both camps when we checked out their stand at Eurobike. And Jo wouldn't be drawn on the future of CX racing...

I think Jo's change of mind is an important breakthrough. Worldwide adoption must surely now follow.

I've had a CX bike with discs for 6 years, which is great for trail riding and tearing around the woods but I race CX with rim brakes.

having actually ridden and raced a CX bike with discs i can say they're a definite advantage over rim brakes, especially in racing where their power and consistency meant it was easy to out-brake competitors, frequently gaining 2 or 3 places on corners

they've definitely changed my mind over thinking that rim brakes were all you needed for CX

Apart from Tim Johnston, who finished 37th yesterday, is there any rider in the World Cup series actually using them?

I've been running a CX disc bike for years, but I'll stick to rim brakes for racing as it's tyre selection and grip that's most important IMO.
