As an extra incentive to those taking on the Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride on the 6th of September and raising money for a good cause, the Tour of Britain and The Prostate Cancer Charity today announced a set of ‘money can’t buy’ prizes for the 1000th entrant and for all fundraising riders getting on their bikes, and all participants in the ride are also eligible for a great offer on SRAM rival rear mechs.
There's a choice of three different routes: the full 145Km ride the pros will be doing, a 70Km Challenge Ride, and a 20Km Family ride – fundraisers for all of them will be in with a chance.
The 1000th person to register for the event will receive an opportunity to ride in The Tour of Britain race car at a stage of their choice, VIP hospitality, as well as an official race jersey. In addition, the top fundraisers will be rewarded for their efforts:
- For raising £250 - receive a Unite ByCycling water bottle and the first 80 will receive VIP start ahead of the peloton
- For raising £500 - an official race Blue Jersey
- First person to raise £1000 will win hospitality for two people at a Tour of Britain leg of their choice and a signed Leaders' jersey
- Top fund-raising individual will win a top of the range road bike
- Top fund-raising team will win hospitality at a Tour of Britain leg of their choice and two places in a race car
“When we planned The Tour Rides, our aim was to offer all participants the full experience of what it would be like to take part in a stage of The Tour of Britain,” said Graham Jones, ex Tour de France rider and Route Director of The Tour of Britain. “Today we are taking this one step further by giving riders the opportunity to experience The Tour of Britain in a way that no amount of money can buy, with jerseys, VIP hospitality and travel in an official race car during The Tour of Britain event.”
SRAM Rival offer
The Tour of Britain Official Neutral Service Provider, Saddleback Ltd, is also offering all participants in the Tour Ride a free SRAM Rival rear derailleur with the purchase of a SRAM Rival DoubleTap Shifters before the 30th of October. Riders in The Tour Rides will also benefit from neutral service provided by SRAM, with working neutral service cars and mechanics at the event start and all drink and feeds stops on the route.
The Prostate Cancer Charity Tour Ride provides a unique opportunity for members of the public to get on their bikes and ride the official Stoke-on-Trent stage of The Tour of Britain race. This event takes place on Sunday 6 September 2009 and is the first event of its kind to be organised in Great Britain.
