Bradley Wiggins Foundation launched with aim of boosting sports participation

Bradley Wiggins, who a month today will roll down the ramp in the Tour de France prologue in Liege with the Team Sky rider harbouring hopes of becoming the first British rider to win the maillot jaune in Paris three weeks later, has launched a charity that aims to get more people participating in sport as well as nurturing young talent.

Details are a bit sparse at the moment, but on its Twitter feed, the Bradley Wiggins Foundation says “more information is coming soon,” and you can also keep up to date with developments via its Facebook page.

A website has also been set up – unsurprisingly, there’s a bit of a Mod theme to the graphics – in which the charity’s aims and objectives are set out:

• To promote participation in sport and encourage people to exercise on a regular basis

• Support keen and talented athletes from all sports who have the potential of taking their talent to the next level

• Provide equipment or facilities to allow participation in sport as an individual, through clubs, local communities or schools.

From that, it doesn’t look like the charity’s activities will be restricted to cycling – outside the sport, Wiggins himself is a keen follower of Liverpool FC and the rugby league team, Wigan Warriors.
