howies launch new Cycle Range

For the record, I now have a pair of the shorts and they are just as nice as they look in the pictures above. Seem very well put together. Fit is spot on and glovelike (same size as fits me for Rapha and dhb bibs). The material does feel thicker than other bibs I have, and the straps are mostly made of the regular weave rather than the more open weave, so I wonder if they will be the bib of choice if we ever have a hot summer's day, but for most of the year, that won't be an issue.

initial pad impressions are good too, so although I haven't gone for the full 5hr test of truth yet, I would be surprised if they give any problems.

For the price they are totally awesome.

Being a small company and with this being our first cycle range, we went with just one colour and kept the range small.

This also governed the sizes this time around. We're hoping to expand the range for Autumn and will be looking to do more sizes as well as women's.

Is there any reason why the jerseys aren't available in XL? It's not so much for the beer gut as the chest size - I'm 42" when I breathe in deeply...

The pad is manufactured by TMF in Italy and is from their professional range.

It's a multi-level, seamless pad with elastic side flaps to move with your body along with rapid sweat absorption and a quick-drying antibacterial finish.

Looks nice and if the pad is decent then £59 seems pretty fair for the bib-shorts.

Shorts are supposed to be black. Fingers crossed they have some non-Henry-Ford-inspired colours up (on?) their sleeves for the tops. But please not fluoro either - the choice of "stealth ninja" or "80s clubber" colour schemes for road cyclists, with nothing in between, is getting a bit tedious.

I actually enquired (to Howies) who was producing the insert ad was told,

"With regards to the pad, it was sourced from a pad specialist and we'll be posting more photos and details on the site shortly. This wasn't ready in time for the launch.

You may be interested to know that the actual price of the bib shorts is £59 – unfortunately we had a glitch on the website which has now been fixed to reflect the new price."

So that covers the pricing issue also, I enquired as I wouldn't be spending the previously stated £79 on te Bibs without knowing what the pad inside was.

I love Howies stuff personally and will be interested to see what the "in use" reviews are like when they start appearing.

Have to say, I am rather interested in the shorts- would be nice to know what the insert is as well- as black is just fine for them. The only colour even. The tops? Colour would be nice.

I've got a few pairs of their jeans, tops etc nice stuff. but this does look very boring in all black.

I've had the crank hoodie for a while (great, by the way) but always wondered why they hadn't produced any serious on the bike gear. Fairly decently priced as well.

Would the Race Radio pocket fit a phone?

Or a multi-tool?

I'm assuming that if you purchase the bib shorts you're not actually entering in to a contract with howies that stipulates the race radio pocket can only be used for the purpose of holding a race radio.

It's simply there if you need it.
