Memory Map announce new GPS unit

Adventurer 2800 launches at the Cycle Show

Memory map have long been major players in the software side of GPS mapping, and now they're dipping their toes in the waters of the harware market with a new GPS receiver, the Adventurer 2800. It comes pre-loaded with National Parks mapping on a 2Gb SD card and you get an extra 10,000 sq.km of Landgranger maps too, courtesy of Digital Map Shop, Memory Map's Pay-as-you-go service.

The unit itself is a weatherproof receiver with a 2.8 inch touch screen and a 50 channel GPS chipset, which Memory Map claim will lock on quickly and keep your position even in wooded and built up areas. Mains and car chargers and a belt clip are all included, but a bike mount is extra. As well as Pocket Navigator for OS mapping on the go, the Adventurer will run as a standard satnav with voice instruction. It looks like you'll get all the functionality that you get on the PDA versions of Pocket Navigator, which includes uploading routes and tracks to the unit, live tracking and track logging, and download of track data to your PC for review.

The RRP of the Adventurer is £250 and you'll be able to get one from November. If you can't wait that long then Memory Map will have demo units at the Cycle Show, they're on stand C15.
