At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

A brand new model in dhb’s lineup, the Momentum is quite a heavy-duty winter workhorse jersey with some useful features.

It’s made from a fleecy polyester that provides plenty of insulation. It’s not windproof (you need dhb’s Windslam jersey for that) but it’s thick and warm – certainly an autumn/winter weight rather than one for the summer evenings. The main fabric is reasonably stretchy, especially widthwise, while waffle fleece panels – the white bits – provide more give and extra breathability.

In terms of cut, the Momentum is pretty slim and sporty. Skinny types won’t find acres of fabric flapping around in the breeze while that stretchiness means you’ll also get a comfortable fit if you’re a bigger build. We found the sleeves plenty long enough to keep our wrists covered when reaching forward to the bars, and the elbows are articulated slightly so there’s no bunching when you bend your arms. The rear is extended to prevent any draughts around your lower back too and a silicone gripper all the way around the hem holds it in place well.

There’s really good attention to detail in the design. Take the rear pockets, for example. You get two normal, open-topped ones, but the middle one has a Velcroed flap over the top and comes with a waterproof backing so you can safely stash your mobile phone without it getting sweaty. Good thinking, huh? Another pocket has a key clip in it and there’s a zipped pocket that’s large enough to take your bulging wallet if you want to go out fully prepared.

Other smart features include an extra panel on the collar that extends its height to cover the back of your neck, and a facing behind the top section of the zip to prevent any scratching. That zip, by the way, is from YKK so it should stand the test of time and the all-round quality of construction is fine – we’ve no worries at all on that score.

Downsides? We’re not hugely into the styled up reflective decals on the arms and back that several brands are going for at the moment, but that’s just a matter of preference. They do the job. And that Velcro tab on the pocket can catch on some gloves if you don’t take them off before ferreting around in there.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what that little stud on the hem is for, it’s purely decorative.

Taken as a whole, this is an impressive off-season jersey with some well-designed features. At £50 it’s fantastic value for money. As well as red, it's available in blue and black.

Verdict

Warm winter insulation. A solid performer with some very good features, and excellent value.
