At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

You can be the equivalent of an alpine st. Bernard and carry your own medicinal tipple whilst out on your next ride with Ahearne Cycle's Spaceman hip flask and holder. Basically it is a rather crudely welded, modified, bottle holder with a raw, unpainted finish that bolts onto your standard bottle mounts and which holds a generic hip flask snuggly in its grasp.

Now, I'm not condoning drinking and riding but sometimes wetting your lips with a wee nip of brandy on a cold ride or to add an extra hit to your coffee stop seems like an attractive option. then this will keep your elixir safe and your blood well oiled.

The cool thing about it is that it is that it is fun and quirky the possible downside is that it does kind of suggest that you are fond of the taste of liquor... and some might think obsessively so, especially if your bike only has one bottle mount.

Verdict

Medicinal beverage holder for the well oiled.

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

This looks way cooler than sticking your hip flask down you lycra shorts... "why is this booze you have kindly offered me so damned warm?"

anything that gets plucked out of your riding pants and thrust towards you is for a different group ride altogether.

Tell us some more about the technical aspects of the product?

Stainless steel, unbranded hip flask 250ml approx

Unpainted metal cage

I think the fabricator had already finished the contents of the hip flask before welding up the cage! Bird shit welds but at least it is on straight and It holds the bottle as tightly as someone like Oliver Reed might have.

'Good grief, that finish is dreadful! Pre-production perhaps'
Can only assume so, the finish on mine is lovely.

+1 the whole idea of a hip flask is pocketability. Will the next cut & shut be banana shaped. It looks like I made it. £30 = no

I have one of these. It's basically mis-conceived. The hip-flask is shaped as it is so that it goes in a pocket. It needs to be in a pocket to keep one's liquor at the right temperature.

If the flask's on a frame on a winter evening ride the liquor ends up refrigerated. Fine for flavoured vodka shots, no good for anything nice.

Great idea! There's absolutely nothing wrong with a quick swig of brandy or rum to warm the cockles on a cold morning ride. Hey, it's 5:00 somewhere! If you're not crazy about the finish of the flask provided or want to use a personalized flask instead, check out this site: http://www.executivegiftshoppe.com/hip-flasks.html

Good grief, that finish is dreadful! Pre-production perhaps? Otherwise, good idea. Without a flask full of rum I would surely have died on the sub-zero Glastonbury 100 back in Jan.
