Tom Dumoulin’s Vincent van Gogh inspired Giant road bike - yours for €19,500

Special parting gift as 2017 Giro winner swaps from Giant to Cervelo in 2019

When Giant Bicycles wanted to create a special bike to gift Tom Dumoulin for his recent wedding, and as a gesture of their appreciation for all the victories he has brought the bike brand as they part company in 2019, Vincent van Gogh was the inspiration.

It's not unique to Tom either, if you're Dumoulin and/or van Gogh fan and have €19,500 sloshing around in your bank account, you could be the lucky owner of one of these bikes. Only 250 will be made however so you might want to be quick. You can register your interest here - we'd love to hear from you if you take the plunge.

The Dutch post-impressionist painter formed the inspiration behind the very unique paint job applied to the Giant TCR Advanced, the favoured model by the Dutch pro cyclist who won the Giro d’Italia in 2017.

“In the Vincentre in Nuenen, the museum where Vincent’s life in Brabant is highlighted, the bicycle was handed over in a festive manner and Tom signed the matching certificate for receiving this special model.”

“Tom also received the beautiful book ‘The great Van Gogh atlas’ as a reference to all European Van Gogh locations, from Frank van den Eijnden, director Van Gogh Heritage Foundation."

It’s unlikely Tom will ever ride the bike though, and he definitely won’t race it as his Sunweb team will be sponsored by Cervelo in 2019, the Canadian bike brand taking over from Giant as Giant heads to the new CCC team.

What do you think? What would van Gogh make of it come to think of it?!  Let’s hear your impressions in the comments below.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

Can't help but think either starry night or almond blossoms would have been a better colour scheme for this, but it's still pretty cool.

Original, I've not seen a paint job like this before.. more of this creativity!

If I were Tom, I'd be a bit miffed they didn't give me number 1 of 250 though.. considering it's inspiration is being touted as a 'reward' for all the victories he's given them..

Looks Tom's ideal bike as it's the same colour as a bad case of the trots.
