Michelin’s iconic green tyres are back with new Power CX models

Two new cyclocross tyres from Michelin available in iconic green colour

During the 1990s all the mountain bikers wanted Michelin Wildgripper tyres in a now iconic green colour. The French company also produced a cyclocross tyre for mud conditions in the same distinctive colour. And now they are back, with the launch of two all-new Power CX tyres right in time for #crossiscoming.

The Power CX range includes two tyres, the Jet and Mud. Both are 33mm wide and available as a tubeless-ready clincher or a tubular, using a 3x120tpi and 2x160tpi construction respectively. Bot tyres get the company’s Bead 2 Bead Protek puncture protection.

The Jet is billed as an all-round tyre mostly intended for dry conditions and leans heavily on the company’s XC mountain bike tyres for its tread design. The Mud, as the name suggests, is intended for slippery conditions with widely spaced lugs for acceleration, braking and cornering traction.

The tyres are available now and cost from £42.99 from UK distributor Silverfish

The green Michelin Mud tyres made a reappearance a few years ago with Wout Van Aert riding them in the Cyclo-Cross World Championships in Bieles, Luxembourg. They were actually the Michelin treads applied to a Dugust tubular tyre carcass. That’s because the Michelins were never available in tubs, only clinchers.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes
