It has to be a Good Friday when there is an event on that you can take part in! The Good Friday Sportive is a new event on the Sportive calendar and offers up a cycling challenge that will test riders of all abilities. With easy access from the M20, Folkestone Rugby Club sits on top of the North Downs and offers ample parking along with excellent pre and post event facilities.
With three distances on offer each route takes in quiet lanes, undulating terrain and typical Kentish scenery as they meander through the countryside and quaint villages. The Maxi and Midi routes pass through the Cinque port of Sandwich features early on along with the Roman fort at Richborough.
All the routes feature the climb to the top of the Devil’s Kneading Trough which offers up far reaching views across the Kent Weald before the long descent into the village of Wye where the routes split. The Maxi route continues the long slog up White Hill in the woods that will sap the legs before a gentle descent into Charing. The village of Pluckley is reputed to be the most haunted in England and it’s worth moving quickly through here so that you don’t get spooked!
Heading south towards Appledore and Newchurch the terrain flattens out across Romney Marsh in the run in towards the finish at Folkestone. After a quick jaunt through the town it's onwards and upwards to tackle Blackhouse Hill.
Sign up for the Good Friday Sportive; a Springtime challenge suitable for riders of all abilities. With a choice of three distances the event is fully supported with signage, chip timing, mechanics, nutritious feed stations and a broom wagon.
Expect a great day in the saddle with the iCycle Events team. Full details on the website at http://www.icycleevents.co.uk/the-good-friday-sportive
