Okay... The reality was, I had the time to spare so I trawled the Web for days... And I think I did pretty well...
Helmet - MET Inferno UL from Chain Reaction £49 rrp 99 - MET helmets fit me perfectly
Jersey - Oneten Primavera long sleeve from Chain Reaction £31 rrp 80 - there's not much left on the market but I rate the Oneten kit I have very highly
Bibs - Sport Pursuit are doing 50% off Giordana, so were significantly cheaper than Ribble who usually have the best Giordana prices. Commuter level longs for £28
Shoes - Gaerne Aster from bike-discount.de £75 - £30 cheaper than anywhere in the UK at the time.
Tip for all - If you are looking for tyres, particularly Schwalbe or Conti, compare prices on bike-discount.de
I am confused, you only had ONE set of kit, and it was destroyed?! What about your stash of retro team jerseys and shorts? To eBay with you.
The set of kit I was wearing was destroyed. Some of it was "one of many" other bits were the only ones I had.
Basically, I want to know if anyone has spotted any bargains online so that I can replace the gear I lost as a result of the crash.
Have a look at Eleven Sportwear on net. They take a few weeks and the colour scheme are colourful, but the stuff is reasonbly priced. I've got a few pieces from them. Namely bib longs and long sleeve tops for 120 Euro delivered.
Decathlon range/products - GREAT....not delivering to Ireland...Not GREAT....
That's very odd. Have they given a reason behind it or is it just a blanket 'no' to delivering to Ireland?

Decathlon do not ship to Ireland (ROI) from mainland UK (for the moment)...
however, a had a reply from their website (rep) and it was very helpful.
I was directed to call their Belfast branch and they would be able to arrange for delivery to ROI...I haven't followed up as yet and hopefully this will work out for me as long as the delivery charge is not too steep...but I can't complain as the item I am looking to purchase is discounted by >60% and is a huge saving...without me having to trek around any shops and hunt down a bargain...vive l'internet...
Was going to suggest that you try the Belfast store. Either that or if you have pals in the The North they might oblige. If I was still Belfast way I would have obliged and held you to a pint
Decathlon do quality gear, if you get it right and pick up 3 of their basic jerseys for £15 or whatever then they are brilliant value and perfect for commuting in and given that they are just one solid colour with no gaudy graphics or sponsors they are also pretty pub-friendly too for wearing off the bike.
Their bib shorts are solid and comfortable and have taken a hammering and still fine.
I've got a cycling jacket from them which I think may be some sort of magic and is indestructible. Its coming up for nearly ten years of regular use and it's still going strong, although I do re-proof it with a Nik-Wax wash in every so often. I've done long rides, short rides, off road, pub rides, and commutes, I've crashed in it, been knocked off my bike in it, climbed mountains on bike and on foot in it, all sorts.
And no, I don't work for them, although I have considered applying in the past but it's fair to say I am definitely a fan.
I had a good explore of Decathlon yesterday. My god, it's amazing. So much good stuff, it's like the Lidl of sports shops. Their top end helmet felt pretty good actually. Their top end bike comes with Ultegra and Cosmics. Mental.
+1 for lycra commuting.
DHB are good and cheap but the sizing can be a bit all over the place so read the reviews before hand.
+1 for lycra on the commute. I use my commute for training, so tend to get into work pretty sweaty. Jeans wouldn't cut it, even tho I ride a singlespeed.
Have you looked at decathlon. Their kit is cheap, but certainly not cheerful; the 7 and 9 ranges are very good quality. I've used their bib tights for 3 winters now, and they're still going strong
Thanks guys!
I was thinking more along the lines of whats hot in the shops at the moment... who's doing the bargains this week basically.
ALSO...Nowt wrong with lycra for commuting. I don't like wearing flappy clothes when I'm riding regardless of what I'm riding or where I'm riding to. I also like to put the hammer down when I'm on the commute which makes lycra eminently suitable.
Talking of Lycra... Sport Pursuit are doing 50% off Giordana bibtights so that makes them the cheapest I could find. Im going to invest in a couple of cheap pairs for commuting and better ones for the weekend.
Lidl. And Tesco does CE-approved helmets for a fiver. Personally, I've never understood Lycra for commuting, to be honest.
I've got a large Giro.. something. Met, maybe? It's black. I managed to squeeze my noggin into a smaller helmet so it's surplus, hardly been worn at all. If you're interested I can take a pic.
No worries, its a 58-62 and pretty sure the pistard sticker could come off.
What size helmet? Does colour matter?
I have a white and silver carrera pistard you can have for £20. Its never been worn, just sat there hanging in my bedroom because I cannot wear it on the trike.
I think I'm 59 cm ie right on the border between Medium and Large in both Bell and Giro.
Thanks for the offer Gkam... unfortunately, the name Pistard on my helmet would get me ripped to pieces by the boys. I wouldn't be able to wear it.
Its a long story...
