Rujano's out of here
Never really justified the pre-race hype.
Out:Hunter,Cav,Guardini
In:Uran,Basso,Barta
Hesjedal
J-Rod
Uran
Basso
Pozzovivo
Rubiano
Barta
Rabottini
Golas
Unlikely to make any changes tonight in order to save them for Milan
DrHeaton Cima Coppi twice a cat 1 if my memory serves me right so 30 points.
59 today, 64 tomorrow, the Maglia Azzurra can change hands, so Rabottini might come out tomorrow to defend, resting today
Looks like today was the day to have Pirazzi then
I went for Tschopp in the end as he's likely to be there or there abouts at the end. If all, or even just some, of this break manage to stay away there's going to be a lot of low scores today. I think most people were banking on the GC guys fighting it out up the front on the last climb.
Oh, and Rujano has just called it a day.
Happy because
Joaquin Rodriguez (KAT)
Ryder Hesjedal (GRM)
Rigoberto Uran (SKY)
Ivan Basso (LIQ)
Stefano Pirazzi (COG)
Matteo Rabottini (FAR)
Andrea Guardini (FAR)
Domenico Pozzovivo (COG)
Jan Barta (APP)
Choice between Cesare Benedetti & Jan Barta today and I went for better chance on Sunday, might regret that.
My rough calculations (based on 15pts for a cat 1, 9 for a cat 2 and 5 for a cat 3 which I think is right) mean that there are 59 KoM points on offer today and 34 tomorrow excluding the Cima Coppi as I don't know what that scores.
Based on that there's no reason that Pirazzi can't overtake Rabottini's 65 if he manages to stay out today and get in a break tomorrow.
Pirazzi takes the points at the top of the climb with Rohregger and Serge Pauwels grabbing second and third
No he doesn't, but with 5 climbs today (inc 3 Cat 1s) and 5 tomorrow (cats 2, 3, 3, 1 and the cima copi) I was wondering if it was possible for someone to start from scratch and catch him with so many points on offer over the next two stages? Pirazzi and Sella may fancy it seeing as they've got nothing else to ride for other than maybe a stage win.
If Pirazzi, Sella, Garate and maybe Casar take it up and work together there's no reason the four of them can't stay away, there's some excellent climbers in the break but it's a looong stage and anything could happen. I wouldn't be surprised if Euskatel wanted to bring it back together for one of their better climbers later on, or Vaconsoliel even as they've not got anyone in there and De Gendt may fancy his changes.
Guardini for KoM Jersey!!
Pirazzi/Sella probably with maybe Guardini trying to steal points away from them. I guess as they've both been crap for the first two weeks they'll be after the stage win.
Any idea if there's enough KoM points left today and tomorrow for Rabottini to lose the jersey?
No Rabottini
Seventeen different teams represented, although no Garmin. Would think this is likely to stay away, which would increase Cav's chances of retaining the Maglia Rossa.
DrHeaton, I believe Rabottini has no close KOM rivals in the break.
Well ive gone
J-Rod
Hesjedal
Basso
Gadret
Txurruka
Tschopp
Keizer (please go in the break, you need the km's)
Pozzovivo
Bauer (cheap and ready for sunday (also 5 points if hesjedal was to win the stage))
Well i've got 1 eye on sunday so not much change
Sergio Luis Henao
Ivan Basso (IN)
Joaquin Rodriguez
Thomas de Gendt
Domenico Pozzovivo
Johann Tschopp
Christian Vande Velde (IN)
Matteo Rabottini
Geoffrey Soupe
Depending on today, prob give Tschopp and de Gent the chop and bring back Uran or Hesjedal
I think today will be won by an attack or breakaway, with the main GC guys coming in not far behind. My money's on a Gadret attack today, maybe Nieve too. Wouldn't surprised to see De Gendt give it a go either.
I've given up on the main comp now after losing 10 places in two days but I've stuck to my plan:
Rodriguez
Basso
Hesjedal
De Gendt
Pozzovivo
Rabottini
Guardini
Tschopp
Txurruka
Fingers crossed today goes better than the last couple of days.
