I vaguely remember horngate. Personally I don't mind a pip of the horn In the right context. On the one hand I've been on a single-track with a strong head wind and not heard the motor behind me. He'd been behind me fuck knows how long then tooted before a climb I move over, slow slightly let him pass, wave at each other everyone's happy.
Or.. I might be head down arse up on the TT tanking along atm 30mph hearing nothing but road noise under the tt lid weaving around potholes, chasing a seggy a friendly horn at least brings awareness for me to then assess the situation and decide whether or not I'm gonna let the car pass or not.
I very much doubt that this account belongs to Ashley Neal. What checks are made by moderators for accounts purporting to represent the views of a named person?
Don't listen to the above poster - I don't think it's really Mungecrundle at all. That's what I got from Great Eastern anyway. As we all know the mods are all over user account moderation.
You think that "Ashley Neal" might be another of the Infinite Nigels?
Reading later posts, I think I'm now pretty convinced that "Ashley Neal" is THE Ashley Neal.
In all honesty I would imagine that the majority of contributors on this forum would agree that the cyclist in question was pretty much bang out of order and an embarrassment.
Thanks for the summary but I'm still not giving him any clicks.
Nor me although I do like the idea of him increasing his cycling experience. The few sections of his videos that I've watched have been boring and I don't think he's particularly insightful or knowledgeable.
I refrained from commenting on YouTube, but I noted riding along the double yellows - too close to the edge, pedal strikes, need to weave round drains, visibility. Doesn't seem to apply the secondary position.
The left hook would barely register on a typical rider's Richter scale.
Riding down the footpath, it looked like he passed pedestrians dutifully waiting at the side of the path at some speed, but that could be the optics of the camera. I would have hoped for something around a slow jog at that proximity, given the walkers looked a bit unbalanced.
Still, good to see him getting a perspective.
Could be an interesting series. I also noted his surprise at the noisy exhaust, something which drivers tend to be isolated from. I think that is a factor often forgotten in close pass incidents, the alarm and rush of adrenalin as something big, fast and loud gets far too close.
Was he complaining at the lack of horn blasts from every approaching motorist?
I may watch later.
No, but he breezed across a junction on a cycle lane with heavy traffic running alongside without apparently slowing. He did a shoulder check, but would you assume you could cycle across a junction even if it is your priority given the average motorists' knowledge, attitiude and use of indicators?
Strange as when he did some cycling at the start of lockdown and did a video about it, he almost got caught by a car leaving a junction. Of course he decided to state his superior road skills meant he was super safe. I think it was one of the first vids of his I saw.
Aye, this. I'm particularly concerned that @Ashley Neal, under the premise of "Education", will counter the National Cycle Standard and the advice given to kids and adults through Bikeabilty, leading to more people being put at risk because of his behaviour.
For example, the in that video alone there is WAY too much
1) riding close to the mouth of a junction,
2) riding in the gutter
3) riding in the door zone
If he is actively going to go down the "rider education" piece, he should undergo the Cycle Training first, including to the level of being a certified Cycle Instructor, otherwise it's sadly just another person using experience based upon the discreded Cycling Proficenecy banner to spread misinformation.
