Sounds like car owners are now experiencing what cyclists in some urban places have had for years:

One dad claimed there is nowhere suitable to park to pick up his daughter and that the current situation is 'unfair on council tax payers'

https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/plymouth-news/angry-plymouth-paren...

"Plymouth City Council also said it has provided a free pick-up and drop-off parking in William Road Prance car park, which is about a five minute walk away from the school."

5 minutes - that's a lifetime and it's too far to walk and what if its raining ?

We should have another column for horse riders and their problems. Motorists kill or injure about 4 horses a week apparently, but cyclists...

I googled to find how many horses had been killed by cyclists, but couldn't find an example (though I did find a news story of my ex-wife's cousin's wife being thrown from her horse after an incident with cyclists which I now vaguely remember hearing about at a family funeral) but I did find examples of cyclists being killed by horses.

Up until last year the seafront has remained largely unchanged.

apart from when the arches were installed at the pier end of The Beach when the road was widened in the 1990s.

Previous road widening had left unsightly concrete pillars holding up the road and the arches were a huge improvement.

A serious crash on the A14 blocked the eastbound carriageway for 6hrs this morning, but has anyone ever heard of a school closing as a result of a crash like that, because the teachers weren't able to drive in ?

Beautiful reply on a local site thread moaning about "Road tax". Quite a long-winded way of announcing they are a prick.

Rule change could allow school run mums and dads to use bus lanes

Experts [???]  say it would speed up commute times and reduce congestion for everyone

Tim Alcock from LeaseCar.uk said: “Parents and carers up and down the UK can really relate to the frustration of the school run, with your kids arguing in the back telling you you’ve forgotten their PE kit or lunchbox. “It’s easy to get frustrated and getting stuck in traffic knowing they’ll be late to school isn’t helping anyone.

“Our campaign to allow school runners to drive in bus lanes will not only help to ease congestion on other road users getting to work during rush hour, but also stop so many children from consistently being late to school and missing education simply because of the traffic.

Mr Alcock, fuck off, right over there, fuck off as far you can go and when you get there, fuck off some more.

Combe Martin in uproar over crumbling roads and parking fines

They say there are parking bays available but not for visitors

Uproar, I tells ya. This is a long, somewhat rambling piece with, apparently, two protagonists - a bit like the drive into Britain's longest village. At least there's a good picture of some locals pointing at a pothole.

Huh? "Ms Lewis said that the parish council had made some parking spaces for visitors in the summer, but that residents aren’t allowed to park in them."

“There are parking bays out there all year round, but they are for 30minutes only, so we know it’s nothing to do with safety; there’s nobody even here in the winter. A lot of time you’ll see two or three cars parked in an empty bay with a ticket on them where it's safe to do so. No matter where you park, you get a ticket.

"She explained that the council banned the use of residents parking overnight for ten years between 2006 and 2016, and they were forced [forced, I tells ya] to park and receive fines for using Hollands Car Park, which they were not allowed to use at weekends due to football matches." Huh?
https://combemartin-pc.gov.uk/car-park-charges-2/

Maybe a pattern is starting to form now: "“The locals and Resident’s Association who have parking, phone the district council to get them to send traffic wardens, and they put it on Facebook telling us we deserve them for parking on double yellow lines; but where else are we supposed to park?

“Residents are fed up with parking fines in safe zones and it's all year round. We have nowhere to park because they say emergency vehicles can't get through, even though the road is wide enough for three vehicles and then tell us that Chapel Lane is not a priority. Then they continue to fine us for parking on the High Street.”

Speeding, overtaking sports car driver smashed into family on A39 near Truro

Goryl has no previous convictions but has been caught for speeding - both before and after the crash. His barrister Rupert Taylor said: "This tragedy is entirely his fault and he has to live with that. In this case there was no racing, no evasion and no intoxication. The vehicle was properly maintained.

"He is unable to move on and relives this moment over and over again. He is ashamed and seeks through me to make an abject apology.

"He is industrious and runs a successful business and accepts full responsibility for driving too fast." Making a plea for a suspended sentence, Mr Taylor said: "This moment of madness cost everyone nearly everything."

oh, very nice but

Mrs Taylor remained in hospital for three weeks for injuries including broken ribs, a spinal fracture, a broken wrist, lacertated liver and lungs, a broken arm, a broken hip, two broken femurs and damaged tendons and nerves. She required multiple operations and her left leg is damaged permanently.

Her 21-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries, but the eight-year-old was left with life-changing injuries. She suffered a broken neck with her head detached from her spine, an injury which is usually fatal. She also suffered many fractures and spent a total of 11 weeks in hospital. She has made a recovery but still suffers physically and psychologically.

Amazed that she thought leaving a note in the car window (she had pen and paper to hand, but no 'phone) was going to achieve anything...

Devon woman stung by parking fine despite leaving a friendly note

Janice Bailey parked in the city centre and claims the meter was broken - but despite leaving a friendly note still received a fine and has been forced to pay up after her appeal was rejected

"I just feel very cross and inflamed," said Janice. "Apparently I should have scanned a barcode but I didn't have my phone on me, and I don't have internet on my phone anyway. People older than myself in their 70s and 80s must not know what to do; I wouldn't have a bloody clue even if I did have my phone."

Janice parked her red Citreon at Derrys Cross, near The Athenaeum, on January 11 at 12.05pm. She had change with her, but after noticing the meter was not working - and not having any other form of payment - she left a note to explain. Just 30 minutes later she received the penalty charge notice and on returning to her car was left scratching her head.

On "Jed" - some of his remarks are a bit wide of the mark (a "free country" doesn't mean lawless and no-one is going to jail over a civil dispute) but I actually agree with him on principle and I very much suspect a court would too: charges in private car parks come down to contracts, and part of entering into a contract is having adequate opportunity to understand what you are agreeing to. This is actually made clear in the BPA's code of conduct which requires a minimum period of 5 minutes for consideration of the terms: https://www.britishparking.co.uk/code-of-practice-and-compliance-monitoring

One of the reasons that Police Interceptors is ch 5's star of cop persuit shows, apart from John Wrong'uns Thompson, is that they always play the "how many times over the limit is this pissed arsehole?".

We had similar issues locally, I don't understand why planning permission doesn't include a requirement for building companies to provide their own parking for their builders.
