Ride24 cycle challenge back bigger and better for 2010

Early bird registration offer for teams

The second RIDE24 endurance relay for road racers will take place at the Top Gear test track in Surrey next June 19-20 and teams signing-up before the end of November 2009 can take advantage of a half-price early bird registration offer. Any team entering before the end of November 2009 can claim a 50% discount on the entry fee.

Organised by children’s health charity Action Medical Research and supported by British Cycling, the event is inspired by the 24 Hours of Le Mans motorsports race. Teams of four will need stamina, speed, skill and strategy as they compete for the coveted RIDE24 trophy, won by the team that completes the most laps, and therefore travels furthest in 24 hours.

The event takes place at Dunsfold aerodrome and operates under British Cycling Technical Regulations.

This summer’s inaugural event was attended by Olympic road race champion Nicole Cooke, cycling ambassador for Action Medical Research, and saw 25 teams of four spend 24 hours racing in the saddle. The organisers are hoping to double the number of competitors for 2010’s event.

Food and drink is provided over the weekend and teams can take advantage of free massages, music and entertainment in the Rider Village. All participants receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal.

Action Medical Research is a leading UK charity focusing on children’s health. The charity is currently funding research into many serious diseases and conditions, including meningitis, pneumonia, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as supporting the development of new treatments and aids to improve the quality of life for disabled children.

For more information about RIDE24 and to register visit www.action.org.uk/ride24, or you can contact event manager Sarah Stevenson on 01273 735788 or sarahs [at] action.org.uk.

If you really want to ride for 24 hours instead of being in a "relay team" on a motor racing track, I am organising a 400km audax that weekend starting from near Taunton

There is another 400km event starting near Newcastle the same weekend

hmm… might be difficult, it's the same weekend as the Mountain Mayhem sportive and we are going to be fairly heavily involved with that. More news on that very soon. 1
