Vuelta Stage 13: Daniel Navarro wins stage, Alberto Contador keeps race lead

No change on general classification after Alejandro Valverde misses out on bonus seconds

Cofidis rider Daniel Navarro has won Stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana at Parque de Cabárceno in Cantabria, with Katusha’s Daniel Moreno second and Wilco Keldermann of Belkin third.

Alejandro Valverde of Movistar finished fourth, out of the bonus seconds – earlier, he’d been pipped to a time bonus at the intermediate sprint too – and the top of the general classification remains unchanged with Tinkoff-Saxo’s Alberto Contador keeping the race leader’s red jersey.

Navarro, who comes from the next door region of Asturias, where the race heads in the coming days, got away late on in the 188.7km stage from Belorado with Giancluca Brambilla of Omega Pharma-Quick Step and held on to take what is the biggest win of his career.
