Polar and Look have redesigned their power-measuring pedals to use Bluetooth Smart communication, with one option priced far lower than before at under £850.
Kéo Power Bluetooth Smart
The Kéo Power Bluetooth Smart includes Look Kéo Power pedals with two redesigned Polar Bluetooth Smart transmitters. They measure your power output, the balance between your left and right legs, cadence (pedal revolutions per minute) and efficiency.
These give you a ‘force vector’ which is designed to help you improve your technique by showing you how you use force against the pedal.
The price of this system is £1,439.50.
Kéo Power Essential Bluetooth Smart
With this set up you get two Look Kéo Power pedals but just one Polar Bluetooth Smart transmitter. That means you can’t get a measure of your left/right power balance, you just get overall figures for both.
This option is priced at £844.50 so it’s considerably cheaper than the Kéo Power Bluetooth Smart, and it’ll be easier to set up and swap between bikes too.
With each system the data is transferred to a compatible Polar training device and from there you can transfer it to the free Polar Flow web service where you can analyse your figures.
Polar say that the two Kéo Power Bluetooth Smart products work best with the Polar V650 bike computer, and the Polar V800 (£399.50), a training device with integrated GPS.
They are also compatible with other products that use Bluetooth Smart technology and which can detect power output when riding. They’re not ANT+ compatible, though, so you can’t use them in conjunction with a Garmin Edge computer.

Power meters, for most of us, its like giving a bald man an overhead mirror.
Well you don't *have* to buy one you know. You can be like me and choose not to have one!
