The Edinburgh International Festival, as well as its Fringe, have been a fixture on the cultural calendar for almost seven decades – and now, cyclists are to get their own version, with the Scottish capital hosting its inaugural CycleFest this September.
Organised by Rowan Mackie, who previously put together the Scottish Bike Show (SBS), the event takes place at the Corn Exchange on 19 and 20 September, with 5,000 people expected to attend what is billed as “a first class event which has been needed in Edinburgh due to the popularity of cycling over the past few years."
According to BikeBiz, the family-friendly event will comprise an indoor exhibition space including a presentation theatre and Bikefit studio, as well as outdoor events.
Mackie said: “We had four great years organising SBS in Glasgow and I am delighted to be working on a brand new cycling event in Edinburgh which will target predominantly a family demographic and newbies to cycling.
“We want to celebrate Scottish Cycling and all the activities Edinburgh has to offer as well as showcase fantastic brands and services which our intended audience may not have the opportunity to see in one event, hence the name CycleFest Edinburgh 2015, a festival experience of cycling.”
The venue stages 350 events a year – including during the Edinburgh Festival each August – and its managing director, Paul De Marco, said: “We have been looking to do a cycling event at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange for quite some time now, so the recent addition of Rowan to our team with the experience and contacts he brings, it’s great to finally showcase a festival style cycling event in Edinburgh as there hasn’t really been anything like this before.”
A holding page for a website dedicated to the event has been set up at www.cyclefestedinburgh.com and anyone interested in exhibiting should contact //rowan [at] ece.uk.com" target="_blank">rowan [at] ece.uk.com.

Edinburgh already has a ten day long festival of cycling in June. The Edinburgh Festival of Cycling is now in its third year and will be bigger and better than ever.

Hope they do a better job than they did in Glasgow, as that show was crap. Six minutes it took to go round the last one in Glasgow.
